Me and JB, talk No Country For Old Men for such a long time that we split this into two parts
Damn, I was like I kinda still wanted to make my uh original No Country for Old Men joke and uh just about If it's the song, don't it's the song. I still had no song, not the joke, but just how I was like If you want to sing, do it. But well you know what I really I really wanted to originally do for our first episode, the Obsession episode? I wanted to change the song, the lyrics to the that forever song, the doo doo doo doo.
SPEAKER_01Oh, at the end?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Do you want okay and so did you have an idea or you just wanted to?
SPEAKER_03I did for like a little bit. Oh yeah, but I was working on it because it was like uh then you should do it. I should have, but it was more like just be like, did you miss me? Like because it's about I haven't been back, I haven't I haven't podcasted in a long time. That's all I was in. That would have been great. That would have been pretty good, huh? I was working on it, bro. Like, don't worry. Like the way I do it is like I have to hear it in headphones, and then like right now I would sing because I'm still I think I got like 10 seconds of copyright law, but since I'm parodying it, I don't know. But anyways, like it's a whole new thing, yes.
SPEAKER_02You are so into all sorts of arts, bro. You draw, you make film, you're writing parody songs.
SPEAKER_03You're like a I'm a little creative. Yeah. Thank you. That's so cool. I didn't know all that about you. Well, I guess I could tell you did not listen to the older podcast episodes. No. No, you didn't. Like I said, it's one. You know what's funny? One of my other guest stars, Big Bald Soph, shout out BBS from our beef episode. Um, because I sent her her episode, she's like, I can't believe you cheated on me with another co-host. I was like, I'm sorry, Doc. And she's like, no, it's okay, I'll listen to it when I go home. She has not updated me at all ever since. So we don't know yet. Um But I think she would be a fan of No Country for Old Man, and I think she also I think so too. Yeah. No, because she loves she spuck it into movies too, bro. And um and she definitely would have hated Bear and been she would have liked upset.
SPEAKER_02Oh, she didn't watch those movies, she would have.
SPEAKER_03I don't know if she's watched it yet. I was also like just the homie in the Bay Area, and I don't really talk to her a lot. But she was the guest, she was the first one, BBS. And then my mom. And then now you. All important ladies in my life.
SPEAKER_04These dudes for taste games.
SPEAKER_03I became a metal worker at 23. Me and my daddy were metal workers at the same time. I think he was real proud of that. I know I was. I'm just kidding. That was the semi-opening I had, dude.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I know. I was there when you told it to me.
SPEAKER_03I was. He was, but these people weren't. Nope.
SPEAKER_02And unfortunately, and unfortunately, they are here now, and they did hear that.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Can't compare yourself to older times. To earlier in the day.
SPEAKER_02Earlier in the day.
SPEAKER_03Just to see how it would have held held up. Never missed a chance to do it. Yeah, dude, you fumbled as you said.
SPEAKER_04Well, because you were doing it so good earlier too, but I didn't come on, go ahead.
SPEAKER_02No. You okay, no, never mind. That's not true. You fumbled the words, and that made me fumble because I didn't know what you were touching. Very much, yes. Yeah. That's all.
SPEAKER_03This is a big deal for me, alright? Alright, I'm sorry. Don't fuck it up. Well then I was gonna say, like, how do you want I would want you then you take the lead, I dare you. Do you want to go through it plot by plot, or do you want to read your notes? You also gotta say, like, no country for old men. Came out when? 2007. 07. Mm-hmm. 07, directed by Joe and Ethel Cohen. It was by Mac McCarthy book.
SPEAKER_02Based off a book.
SPEAKER_03For the best adaptation of it. They also won't be the film Javier Bardem won. He won for Best Supporting the year?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And then I think they did win Best Picture. That is awesome. Yeah, that's crazy. There you go. And it is my absolute favorite movie. And I saw it. Did you want two leaders? On a bootleg copy of it, on a bootleg DVD, I saw it. And yeah. So I was twelve roughly. Wow. I must have been twelve. And that was like the this is this is like the first movie that I was like, wow, like the A movie made me feel literally like cinema. Like this is cinema.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02And it made me take movies serious more seriously than I than I did before, right? Because I was twelve. So I was just like watching like The Lion King and cartoons, and it was just for entertainment.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02Like childish entertainment in a way. And then No Control Men came in and I was just like like whoa, like this is these stories are are amazing. Like movies can be amazing. And I think No Control Men was was my introduction to that for like yeah. It was like an introduction for like, yeah, I can I can that movies can make you feel or that they're amazing story.
SPEAKER_03God, I love that, bro.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Mine was Lord of the Rings Two Towers.
SPEAKER_02Okay.
SPEAKER_03But I did see that in theaters a little earlier, so that was what 2003, 2008. Yeah. Maybe even two-ish bro, and I was just like, whoa, this movie made me feel things. And I was like, that was crazy.
SPEAKER_02I can see that because I just recently sort of watched them for the first time, and they are really good.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they are. And so that one, and then I also have a core memory of iRobot with Will Smith. Okay. And I was like, okay, that was a good one. And then it's like, I didn't go to theaters for a long time after that until like I was a teenager again. And then I was living off of DVDs and Blue Legs too, like you were saying. But I just remember like those two movies in theaters. I was like, holy shit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Like for No Control Men's, like, uh it made me pay attention to the directors. It made me pay attention to the actors. It that's the whole reason I watched Burn After Reading for the first time. With the whole the the whole reason I even it was on my radar is because it was all the Cone Brothers. And I was like, oh, I this they made this movie, I gotta watch this movie. And then a little later on in life I started like I watched the Big Lebowski, I watched um I think it was the same freaking my cousin showed me Big Lebowski.
SPEAKER_03And I think at the time I didn't realize he was I think he was like it's Cohen Brothers movie. And I think I was probably 12. So whenever No Country came out, he was trying to show me fucking Babylowski.
SPEAKER_02He was trying to put you on peak.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he was right off the bat. And I was like, what is this? I have no idea what's going on. Like I was not into it. He also tried to show me like at 12 o'clock in the middle of the night. And uh and I'll never forget that I actually wasn't into Babylowski at first. I can admit that. Like, because I did like I didn't even feel like I didn't even finish it. I saw it when I was a little older. So Okay. And then so I went back to it. Like when I was like 16 or give or take, I went back to it. I was like, this is fucking peak. I get this. And then I didn't even smoke weed then, and then my whole vibe was like, this is the fucking vibe right now. I just wanna be chill, dude, bro. The dude abides, and I get that. Uh and then, but no, but because of that, I knew that the Cohen Brothers were also. So I'm gonna say, like, I think Tarantino was my director that put me on the directors because Pulp Fiction was definitely my that was an awakening for me too. A home awakening where I was like, I need to pay attention to directors. Not just that movies make me feel, but I need to pay attention to who made this. And I think it's definitely Pulp Fiction. And then I think Cohen's were next. And then I think, of course, like Spielberg was probably a name. But I don't even think I knew much Spielberg. Actually, no way, Spielberg wasn't a name, like just he eventually became a name afterwards. Because I'll never forget, I be like my grandpa showed me Indiana Jones. But anyways, but yes, Cohen's bro. Cohen's or other people, the another name that I learned first, but then I didn't watch a lot of their stuff. But it's crazy that you said burn after reading, because that was another one when that came out. I was like, oh, by the Cohen Brothers. I know that. Then I also knew who Brad Pitt was, and I was like, okay, I like Brad Pitt, let me go see. I'll like I'll go see who this one is or whatever. Not that I fucking saw that shit in theaters, but I think I saw it like also years later, or when I was on DVD or whatever. But I was just like, because I also remember the trailer moment where Brad Pitt's doing his fucking dance? Yes, dude, that stuck with me forever. Yeah, I'm still in my yeah, I can still see that. I'm seeing it up. The red outfit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he's like doing like a little little snap or something like that.
SPEAKER_03And part of the movie, isn't that when they're about to blackmail somebody? Like is that when he's dancing? Or no, it's just when he's just excited dancing from the game.
SPEAKER_02I think he's at work like training with somebody or something. He's just hyped. But he's just like a hype. He's just like a goofy guy. Okay. It's just a good movie. That's such a good movie.
SPEAKER_03You think that's a Schwitten? Oh fuck, dude. Okay. I love that one.
SPEAKER_02And and two, and slightly off-tra off topic, but it is it's the same thing. Yeah. No Country came out in 07, Bern After Reading came out in 08.
SPEAKER_03The next one, right? I think so. And then I think Lady Killers and then True Grit. And Lady Killers is really hated, I think. I haven't seen Lady Killers. Uh it's like a remake also of this movie where it's like these guys try to it's Tom Hanks being a bad guy. And it's like they're oh hey, old lady who lives alone. Can we live in your basement? We're rehearsing for something, but like they're using her basement to build a tunnel to rob something. And then it's like, yeah, but it's and I only know about this because my podcast the podcast spot I checked that I listen to, they do the director's photographies. So it's like all the Corn Brother movies I didn't see. I haven't watched Blip Simple. No, I still have it. Dude! So that's number one.
SPEAKER_02It's so crazy. Yeah, that's number one. And that's so crazy because I won't tell I won't even tell you about it, but it's okay. I know some of them have it's like it's so crazy that that they had their vision and their style and our and direction. So early. Fucking day one. Because Blood Simple and Burn After Reading are so similar.
SPEAKER_03Oh Did you ever watch Miller's Crossing? So I saw Miller's Crossing Barton Frank.
SPEAKER_02I ha I have that one, I think. I don't know if I've watched it yet.
SPEAKER_03Barton Fink. Okay, and then what we're probably going into No Country. There's another one called The Man Who Wasn't There, something like that, with um Um with Bad Santa. With Billy Bob Thornton.
SPEAKER_02Billy Bob Thornton. I have that movie too. I uh when I bought Miller's Crossing, I bought a couple other um Colin Brothers movies I haven't watched yet. Okay. Um didn't they do one with Nick Cage too? Yeah. What is it called? Raising Raising Arizona. Yeah. Okay, so I started watching that one. That one's so fucking tense, bro. It reminded it reminds me of um uh what's that Jack Nicholson movie where he's in the business? Yes. It reminds me of that.
SPEAKER_03And uh I know the premise because I still have baby. And King of Comedy, where it's just like you think Oh, they keep making the wrong choices and propounding so but they really meet so well and they're fucking good nature.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Okay. So we're off topic, bro. No, we're still not, we're on the cones. We're going through a quick format. Okay, because it also tracks because they have goofy and they have serious, because no country I'd say is pretty serious.
SPEAKER_02I've never seen humors sprinkled in. I I find it humorous. Okay.
SPEAKER_03I find some stuff humorous. Sheriff's Deputy Wendell is goaded. Gary Hunt.
SPEAKER_02He's in Raising Hope.
SPEAKER_03Okay, I love him. Okay. Um well, you know what I was also gonna just say that I also I've never saw their was it inside the Wynn Davis movie? With Oscar Isaac, yeah. I haven't watched a movie either. Never saw that one either. I heard that one. Is it biopic? Kinda. It's like he's based off a real guy, but he's not the real guy. Dewey Cox is the best biopic.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But it's a parody of them and it shows how shitty they can be.
SPEAKER_03And that's not a parody of them. It's also a parody of the Johnny Cross uh the Johnny Cass movie. Yeah, yeah. In the Ray Charles movie, I think. Yeah. But uh so I haven't seen it either. But that one's he might be like a Morning Supreme, or again, it's another character that keeps making a bunch of things.
SPEAKER_02I definitely want to watch all the movie they all the movies.
SPEAKER_03Have you seen Hail Caesar though? That's what I was trying to get to. I think Hail Caesar is we didn't even talk about Fargo, okay? They also did Fargo.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, Fargo Great, yeah.
SPEAKER_03True Grit, we also blasted through that one. True grit. I don't remember that movie at all. Having DVD? I don't know. I saw that movie with the grandpa, that's why it's also pretty hard. Okay. He's into Westerns and he's like, oh, let's go watch this Western one. He didn't realize it was a corn movie brother, Cohen Brother movie. I didn't realize either until afterwards, because I was just like, oh, it's Jeff Bridges, and then like because I was like a fucking like I don't even know when that came out. That was like 2012-ish. I don't know, but I was a little older, so that's why I was just going with my grandpa and I was like, sure, grandpa, I love a movie, let's go with you. And then I was like, that one's pretty sick, it's pretty awesome. I remember that one just being serious, and then I was like, I didn't I think that's what made me go back to the big Lebowski because I was like, oh, Cohen Brothers. And I was like, oh, they did that movie. My cousin friendship. Okay, anyways. And uh but Hail Caesar, oh I love Hail Caesar. I think Hail Caesar is my favorite from them. From them. Okay. But I also know, but after rewatching No Country for Old Men, like that movie is undeniably like peak. It is a masterpiece movie. Like it it might not even be their best movie, but it's one of the best movies, I think, to be done. Okay. Like, and that's and that's something I'm probably ripping off like from Blank Check 2, but like it's just so it's so cinematically cinema that it's it's like it's it's insane. Like that's why I like it. It's not cinema unless you do a Marcus Corsetti call. Dude, it's putting on glasses, I can't. Okay, it's it's cinema? Cinema. Okay. Cinema. And then oh god, speaking of old masters, I was telling you earlier, I love I want to watch Disclosure Discourse, whatever. Disclosure Day? Yeah, Disclosure Day.
SPEAKER_02Uh Spielberg? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03I love how he's he's he's going on podcasts now and hype it up.
SPEAKER_02And he they were like, And he talked, did you hear him uh he was interviewed and they asked him about uh uh obsession in the backrooms?
SPEAKER_03Yes, yep, and he was like, I'm gonna go watch backrooms, but I did see obsession and I loved it. And he loved it, yes.
SPEAKER_00I was like, let's go.
SPEAKER_03But uh, but there was another clip from because it's a guest on the blank chalk, but uh blank check, and they were they did quick like snippets of jokes from their conversation with him, and they were like uh Jaws 2, not that bad, and they were laughing because he did Jaws 1 and Jaws 2's like and then they were like, What do you think about podcasts? And he's like, Radio's back, and I was like, eh, okay, Spielberg. Okay. Uh sorry. That's a good answer. Yeah, that is, right? I was like, that is a great answer. Thanks, Spielberg. But but yes, that's why No Country Foldman is just it was it's cinema, bro. And it's again, but it's also it does a lot of tropes differently. There's a lot, there's killing off-screen, there's killing on-screen. Who is the real protagonist? I've been wanting to question you, I'd ask you about that.
SPEAKER_02Um that's a great question.
SPEAKER_03Uh and it's but yes, but again, shout out fucking Deputy Wendell, bro. Oh, sheriff, that's aggravating. Dude, I was remote. I was like, that made me like sheriff, which is missing!
unknownWhere's your gun?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I like So, you know what's funny? I I didn't think that was funny at first. I mean, it made me laugh right now, but I realized too that ties into his opening speech. He's like, I was like, some of the old timers didn't even wear a gun. And he's like, and I I don't, or I try not to. And it's like he has it, but he doesn't even want to pull it out then. But he he literally he's the one that says have your gun up and out. And he just wants Wendell to be practicing ready and stuff, and that's why he's like, I'm hiding behind you. And I'm just like, So Tommy Jones is chill about it, but he's still Okay and we can get into that later.
SPEAKER_02Oh, okay. I do have some notes on that. Ooh, I love the about that and another scene in the future.
SPEAKER_03Okay, so now let's end it now. Cohen Brother Talk done. Our relationship to this movie done. Honestly, I don't remember the first time I saw it. I take it back. Fuck. I don't okay. Before you hyped it up to me, I had recently re-watched it with like I showed it to an ex-girlfriend at the time, and I was just like, I haven't seen this in a while. I remember liking it a lot. For whatever reason, it's hyped in my mind right now. Let's watch it together. We watched it, she ended up liking it a lot, because she also loved the way his wife was like, Llewellyn, Luelin! Dude, what is the money? Yeah, that'd be the day. He doesn't lie to her, he doesn't lie to her at all. He knows the truth, and she doesn't believe him at all. Like, where'd you get that from the getting place?
SPEAKER_01Like he just bro!
SPEAKER_03Okay, so a little bit. She's Irish as fuck, by the way, in Ruby. Did you know that? Yeah. She's in uh Borderwalk Empire. That's right. I know her from No Critical, man. But uh yeah, she's in Borderwalk Empire as well. Yes, I know. But yes, I that's how I was like, oh my god, she's Irish, and then to hear her be like perfect Texan accent over here. She's such a little cutie. She is so fucking cute.
SPEAKER_02Beautiful little housewife. Yes.
SPEAKER_03He's just a welder, isn't it?
SPEAKER_02She's awesome in that movie. And she's awesome in this movie.
SPEAKER_03Mama's gonna cuss.
SPEAKER_02I don't know if anybody's not awesome in this movie.
SPEAKER_03I 100%. Okay. Everyone is you're absolutely right. Everyone is awesome in this movie. From store clerks that interact with him, the cop from the opening who gets his neck fucking gouged out by change, handcuffs. Like, okay, that's what was my first. Okay. Let's just get into it then. Let's just get into it. My first probing question, my first, like, we don't even have I'm not even gonna break down the plot. You people should know this movie. We can also talk about it, but like, basic story somebody finds two million dollars, and then he gets chased down by somebody trying to recover that two million dollars. Tommy Lee Jones plays a sheriff who's just kind of behind a one step behind everybody.
SPEAKER_02So what I feel like is Llewellyn Moss is got he's got he's got the money. Josh Brolin, it's Thanos, Thanos, Thanos, uh George W. Um I love that movie. I love that you know that he played fucking Bush at some point. Anton Shigore, Javier Bardem. Yep. Amazing. He is after Llewellyn for the money, and Sheriff Bell, coming to Jones. He is behind them.
SPEAKER_03He's just the sheriff in this county.
SPEAKER_02And this country that's not for any old man. This is no country for old men right here.
SPEAKER_03Okay, first question though. Why the fuck was Antoine Chigar already in Texas? Do you think that they were already aware that the drug bust failed, or what? Because technically, he doesn't know it happens until he goes and meets those two manager guys out in the desert, and then they tell him the situation. He's like, okay, let me get a receiver and then let me go hunt. This motherfucker's just randomly in Texas already killing people. He already gets arrested for I don't know why, because the sheriff, the little deputy doesn't talk about it.
SPEAKER_02It's hard to take it's major.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02So okay, well I have I did I have some notes about the beginning where it's like establishing shots of like the mountains. I love that. Yeah, that's why. The old times. And then he talks about Sheriff Bells, are you thinking where a guy kills a 14-year-old girl, says there was there was no passion.
SPEAKER_03No passion to it.
SPEAKER_02Uh said he wanted to kill, said he'd do it again. Said he's going to hell, be there in about 15 minutes.
SPEAKER_03And the time he was like, I don't know what to make of that.
SPEAKER_02I don't know what to make of that. Yeah. This is that's like the first thing that is it.
SPEAKER_03It is no control men. That's him stating, like, I don't know how to deal with this new type of criminal, this new type of crazy or something.
SPEAKER_02And so And also, I just want to say, No Control Men is uh like a blurb from a poem. I forgot what poem it is, but And that's where Cormac McCarthy, the artist.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, we fucked up. We didn't read the book. Did you read the book? I did. You did? You read this book? Oh my god, he's okay. I was like, oh god, we didn't. Did you read it? I'm not gonna talk about the book, though. Okay, we're just talking about the movie. I might, I might, but I definitely want to read it because I don't know if we're talking about the movie. It's about movies, yeah. But again, to off answer your question from almost 40 minutes ago. We do talk about books in those podcasts and video games and comic books. But yes. Alright. Um so then I was gonna say, does the book give us any more information about why he's there? Why Anton's or no?
SPEAKER_02They just Um It's so weird. Okay, that's okay. Yeah, it it does kind of, but then it's also it's also not explicitly like this is what he's doing in a like it it it is in a way, but it also it's it it's I don't think it goes that deep into into that. Like, did he come from another state or or is he working with the Mexicans? Is he working with the I guess the Americans? Stephen Rue?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, the whoever the manager office is, who is Madison, yeah. Yeah. And uh the voice of fucking uh Bill Daughter, de La Fontaine. Nice, thank you.
SPEAKER_02Um but yeah, that's actually a a really good question. Why is he already there killing fucking Sherry? What yeah, like whose side is he on?
SPEAKER_03I think because literally uh fucking Agent of Chaos Hitman who just happens to be.
SPEAKER_02And Agent of Chaos is a little interesting.
SPEAKER_03And then he he literally just happens to get summoned and that's just the way he gets around. He just fucking kills people. Yeah. So well that's also gonna tie into this, because there's about it has to do with like him and the coin throughout the whole thing and stuff. And I think of also just the fact that this motherfucker is just a guy who likes to kill, I think. And then because like I don't think so. Yes and no, okay. Because he at the end when he has to go back and kill the wife, like he didn't have to, let's be real. Like she said, I'm not gonna call it, like, you're just using it as an excuse. It is you're gonna kill me no matter what. There's something so- But I think it's okay, but that has to tie in the urge with kills. Because I'm gonna say this because he that because why does he kill the two fucking managerial types that were hired him and told him the gig basically? Like, what is the reason to shoot them? Yeah. The only reason why I could think about it this this watch around is because when he got the urge to kill that shopkeeper earlier who married into the fucking gas business, he left it to the coin, and the coin said no, he's gonna live. So because of that, he didn't get to kill anybody right now. And he wanted to kill, and so that's why later on he just randomly fucking kills the two managerial people. Oh I got an urge.
SPEAKER_02I I d I do want to be more direct in order of the scenes, but f to to what you said about that, like why did he kill them? There's a scene where he kills um the businessman with the shotgun. Yep. He bar he kind of sneaks into the building. That's after he realizes they gave like the Mexican gang members. So he goes and he asks uh the he's like bleeding, he's shot, he's all peppered with guns or with the bullet, and he's uh he's bleeding out. He's not even looking at that other accountant behind him. He's just looking at the guy on the floor dying. And he's like uh he's talking to him about uh why did they give the transponder to the Mexicans? And he's saying the accountants like he feels he felt with the more people looking, and he cuts him off and he says, That's stupid. You um You choose the best you choose the right tool for the right job. And so for me, those guys aren't the right because there's such a even with that little um air nozzle thing with the tube that that pipe that kills the people the cow poked in. Yeah, the cow poked us by the compressor, yeah. There's like something like he doesn't view these people as humans. Like there's like there's no humanity. That's very true. And and with that with him saying you picked the right you pick the one right. Tool? There's no humanity in him either. Yeah, he's a tool. He's not even a tool that kills. He's a tool. And so these two guys, they don't know anything. What do you mean? They gave him all the information.
SPEAKER_03What did they tell him? Well he needs to know the receiving that still went wrong, you need to go get the monies, basically. And then that's why, but why did you kill him? He's just a tool. He is a tool that needs to kill, and he couldn't kill earlier.
SPEAKER_02If he's the right tool, those two guys are not the right tool.
SPEAKER_03That's true too. I give you that. And then he's also the right tool because he goes and blaps all the fucking Mexicans in the hotel room.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And even then he was just like, you guys are not the right tool. I'm the right tool. Which I totally concede that. Why is he also being a tool then at the beginning? Whose tool is he at the beginning when he's killing the cop? Is what I'm getting at too. That was my most my my expression. Just that's why he's just something.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so like I said, I'll bring up the book a little bit. And that's one of the things I wanted to bring up. Okay. Um when he's in the book, uh, he's talking with uh uh Wells.
SPEAKER_00Okay.
SPEAKER_02And Which would have been what, Woody Harrelson's character? Woody Harrelson's character. Right before he kills him. He's talking to him. And to me, he he goes into he goes into like a story, and I think it's supposed to be that's how he gets arrested. Is he's at a bar, and so it kind of goes back to like he does want to kill, 'cause maybe he does. Because he goes back, he he's at a bar or whatever, and somebody's kind of giving him like trouble or like mad dogging him or something, and so he kind of walks away, and then I think it's the way it's worded is like he's he's at the door, and then he motions with his head, like, come outside. And then I forget how he kills him, but he kills him. And like he does it so fast, like people are outside, like people come outside from the bar, and they don't even know what's going on. Like they don't even know what happened, and he's off. He's like off driving away. And that's how he's a re that's how he gets arrested in the beginning. I think.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_02I like the way the way I look at this book and movie is like the book is just all the details. The movie is just most of the details. So to me, I put I put together that he killed somebody randomly outside of a bar, and then he and then at the very beginning he's the sheriff's narrating. Okay, yeah. It's hard to even take its major. This crime, yeah. This crime about the scene. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And the first crime starts off at the beginning of this man killing the sheriff. Yeah. And so he's he's I was gonna say then the fact that you said the book is the details and this movie is less details, is what I wanted to discuss before we start recording, is it kind of like a theme of how I wanted to dig dig down this movie is what they show and what they don't tell, which is a whole premise of filmmaking and why this is a cinema. This is why it's a cinema and a masterpiece. Yeah. One of the adages is show, don't tell. Because you're gonna bore your audience with telling them stuff. Or it's exposition. That's why I'd say exposition is so boring, this and that. That's why just show us. And that's why you got Tom Lee Jones, he's just kind of telling us how he feels, which is different than exposition, which is crazy. And then he's just letting you know, like, this is no country for old men. Like, I don't get it. Well, I don't know what to make of that. Here you go. And that theme is. I don't know what you're gonna make of it.
SPEAKER_02Like, it being no country for an old man. It's like 80s, it comes out, it comes out throughout the movie. There's a couple different times, I feel, where that kind of where that phrase no country for old men kind of do you want to tell me as we as it comes up?
SPEAKER_03Do you know when when they're marked up as we go to the movie, or do you want to tell me? Because I'm thinking about it.
SPEAKER_02I have scene by scene, big basically scene by scene of the film in my notes.
SPEAKER_03Okay. So Okay. Um But yes, well then I would say just a showing and don't telling too. I think also with them showing us those beautiful mountain scenes at the beginning, that's some old Western shit. Yeah. But the era of bygone era that he knew and loved back in the day, that's already them showing us the country for the old men.
SPEAKER_00Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And then he's telling us this is not a country for old men anymore. Like, I don't really know what to make of that. And then you just show us fucking again, we don't need they don't need to tell us why Anton Shigar isn't there, but I'm also like, yeah, you know what? Why was he starting to kill this fucking cop immediately from the beginning? But then that's just me thinking about why. Well they also need to show us what a fucking crazy motherfucker this guy is. Yeah, and I let's get into that. The eeriness of him moving behind that poor sheriff's deputy and like when the sheriff's on the phone call, like, yeah, sheriff, I got him. Uh da-da-da. Like, this weird thing for infothema or something. Yeah, it's like as an oxygen tank, I think. You'll have to look at it when you get here, but then how are you right here's getting up all slow and fucking obsession and he does the thing where you s you kind of squat down, put his like he scooped his hands through his butt, and then like one foot in, one foot out, and then he got his hands free and then went forward while his hands are in the front now, and starts choking out that fucking like Which is also too I like how this is within like the first five minutes of the movie. This is less than five minutes, because I can't.
SPEAKER_02I think it's like three, right?
SPEAKER_03Yes, because we don't see the Wallin until five minutes, like ten seconds in. Because we honestly I was like, I because I checked because I was like, we didn't even see him in, because again, who's the protagonist?
SPEAKER_02Um we're getting off topic.
SPEAKER_03We are getting off topic. We are and we are. There's just some threads were laying out that we'll probably get back to by the end as we interwoven. But that shore sheriff's deputy's like, yeah, sheriff, I got it handled, then he does not fucking have it handled because you've got you get choked out to death right then after that. Yeah, I think that's literally as soon as he hangs up the phone, he is behind him with his with the He's already his hands are over him as soon as he says the words out, like it's fucking I noticed that and I was like, damn, that's I feel like that is a bit of a ironic humor. I'm like, no, you don't, but I think that's so sorry. But it's also it's also very shocking where it's just like we're less than five minutes in, we're showing you this.
SPEAKER_02And to go back to like why this movie is so important to me, like at 12, bro, like 12 years old, like I saw a movie and the scene where it it's such a crazy scene because he he strangles him, he he slams himself on the on his back, which in real life that that would knock the wind out of you, bro. But he is he's strangling him.
SPEAKER_03The handcuff chain. He's kicking him.
SPEAKER_02The sheriff's low deputy is trying to kick out, chokes him with his cuffs, slams himself on his own back, and the deputy is kicking and scratching the floor. Yeah. Right? And like you hear you hear this, yeah, the scuff marks you hear, it sounds like basketball shoot, like right at like the squeaking. Yep. And you see like the black marks that are being left, and then it pans to like to like a top-down view of the actual murder, and it pans down to his face, Anton's face, and he has like this crazy look.
SPEAKER_03Where he is outside himself, but he's like in it, and he's just his eye.
SPEAKER_02I don't think it's necessary I don't know.
SPEAKER_03He's blink. He's almost blank. It's not a blink, it's an expression. There's like it's like a c I don't like I don't think it's anger or I think it's blink, but he's exerting himself still. And that's like he's I like that. It's just that he still has to physically exert himself. He is literally pulling so hard that the chain is going into this man's soft flesh of his neck. And it's not even like he's thawing back and forth. But with the man's struggle, yeah. The man's struggles with it. And then there's like how tight he's keeping it.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And there's like a split a splurt, a splurt of blood and not even a lot, but it's so perfect that there is any, and it's just like and it's gruesome, and he's like, Yeah, I'm getting spurred in blood, like that, that's what I'm talking about. And he even like when he bleaks, he even turns his head away. A little bit, yeah, he doesn't want to get it all on him. And just a good chainsaw man reference. They reference that chokeout scene and that blazing. I know, I've seen some stuff where they reference it. Yeah. That movie's so good. I'm gonna get you I'm gonna get you to watch it. Nope. I know. We're talking about no crange for real men. We are, but I'm just saying what a ref like influence it has on other things. We're still talking about it. It's referenced in GTA 5 as well. What part?
SPEAKER_02There's a little side mission um where there's uh like a like a deal gone wrong, like a drug deal gone wrong, and there's a bunch of dead bodies and a bunch of dead trucks out there.
SPEAKER_03Oh, I love that. Damn, bro. GTA 6 and that new Godzilla remake? Okay.
SPEAKER_02GTA 5, did I say 6?
SPEAKER_03No, no, it is five, but I'm just excited for six well, I'm whatever. I'm excited, but it's also like how you're gonna be like. I'm excited for six too, it's been forever. But it's also because now there's that new Godzilla game remastered gonna get released apparently at the same time. So it's like I'm actually more excited for that.
SPEAKER_02They're gonna release the Godzilla game?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, next yeah, yeah, bro. And you know what? The hype is real fat Godzilla game, because it's I've been thinking about that game recently, and it's one of the best fighting games ever. I will get that game and fight with you all the time now. Okay. Okay. No country control then. You did this, you brought up video games. No, I didn't. Yes, you didn't.
SPEAKER_02You brought up a reference, I brought up Animal. You brought up Chainsaw Man, you brought up a reference. And then I had to bring up one. You did. Fuck you.
SPEAKER_03To be fair, I said video games first. And you brought them up. Imagine a no country video game. No. It's like GTA 5, you gotta switch between the three people because who's the protagonist? Okay.
SPEAKER_02I was talking to somebody one time, and they didn't even like the movie.
SPEAKER_03They were talking to them about no country? Okay.
SPEAKER_02And they and he said, Wouldn't you want a sequel to to No Punch Roman? And I was like, What would be the sequel?
SPEAKER_03No. What would yeah, what would be the sequel? Yeah, that's no, it ends. Well, the sequel starts with the shootoff where the wowen dies, and then it goes into Tommy Lee Jones turning into his U.S. Marshall's character and hunting down Javier Barnett. That's the only sequel it is. He's retired from the sheriffs. Javier Barnem killed his fucking lovely veterinarian horsewife. I don't know. I'm assuming she's a vet, but like even Tommy Lee Jones is once. She loves her horse, yeah. She's like, be careful with my horse. Her name's Loretta. Yep, because he was like, if anybody's riding Loretta's horse, I don't want to be. I don't want to be the party on board. Just the way Tommy Lee Jones even talks. He just talks like an old man. Yes. He talks like from a different time. And that's that's like, oh sheriff, that's aggravating. We just missed him. Oh, shout out Deputy Wendell. Okay, and then so after so after he chokes him out. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It goes right into he's he's cleaning up after himself because he's wearing handcuffs while through this, and so his wrists are all cut up.
SPEAKER_05He did cut it down.
SPEAKER_02And so he does some bandages and he rinses himself off. And uh he's so he steals the deputy's car and he pulls over another person, and it just so happens to be an old man. And so to me, there's the I'm picking up your phone. When he's he pulls over the old man. This is your theme about it's not another country. It's not a country for old men. It's not a country for old men. Because this dude is so suspicious. He pulls him over in a cop car, which is fine. Yep. But he's not even in uniform. He's not in uniform.
SPEAKER_00What's the matter officer?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. He has a the fucking air tank with him. And he's like, uh, yeah, he's like, uh, what is that? He's like, could you step into the car, please, sir? And he's stuck like he's kind of annoyed, kind of like he's like curious, he's like, why do I have to do this? But there's like a there's like um it's kind of it reminded me of, you know that have you ever heard that saying like back in my day we didn't even lock our own door, we didn't have to lock our doors. Yep and it's like that trust of like, oh, this is a law enforcement officer. I'm gonna do what they say, I'm gonna do what they say because listen to them because they mean well and they can't. And so he's he's out he's out of the car, and he's like, Would you hold still, please, sir? And he's like, What are you doing? What do you do? But he still holds still. And he's still doing it, and he lets him, he he holds up his little nozzle, it's it's connected through a to a hose through an air tank.
SPEAKER_03It is like a cowboy shoots out a rod that's meant to kill a cow because you just it rotted to your brain, you're dead. So it's like getting shot in the head. And that's why.
SPEAKER_02And so he does that and he real quick, pa, like you hear the air hiss, you hear the air pop off, he gets shot, man. Spray blood in the back, yeah. Yeah, some spritz of blood, some drops, and he falls. And so he steals his car. But it's just that this is truly it's not a country for him because he's too old and stupid and unaware of the crime around these days.
SPEAKER_03I'm gonna tell you already wrong because of the gas station thing. Huh? You're already wrong because of the gas station thing. Or he was using that's why he's using the coin as an excuse whether to kill it or not. But if it was he should have killed that old man.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so there's part with him, with Anton, he's such he's such a He's so alien. And I and and I don't even mean a human, he's a tool. Like you said. And it's like he's so alien in the sense of like he's such a weird guy. Like even his social. Everything about him is so weird and alien to us. We don't understand. It uh says he has rules, right? Kind of I think something is.
SPEAKER_03Like, I don't think he's crazy. Like he thinks he's he's got rules, he's got a system. Like he knows or I don't think he's dumb, or I don't think he's stupid or something. Like he says something along those lines too, where he knows he's seeing that this guy operates by some type of weird fucking mode. But yeah, like, go ahead, I'm sorry, catch you up.
SPEAKER_02Uh I don't remember what was done.
SPEAKER_03Well, I know that if we're still going scene by scene, the very next thing is, which is kind of what I want to get into about what Llewellyn's role is, is when we switch now to Llewellyn, we see Llewellyn's. He's hunting. And it's it's pre the prey. We see prey first. Again, this is showing that telling. I think they're also showing that he he is prey. He's hunted this whole movie. You see him scoping out a deer, and he's like, what does he tell the deer? He says, Don't move or stay there. Yeah. Yeah, and then the same fucking thing kinda happens to him, you know, dude, and like he gets blapped because of goddamn receiver. Well, I mean, he already loses the receiver by then, but again, like just the we're getting way off. We're going right in order. No, we're talking about we're talking about him being dead. But we're talking about the metaphor of it. We're still going in the order of the scene of just how he's preyed. And that's it.
SPEAKER_02But you can't go, you can't talk about the beginning scene of his beginning, and then talk about it then and be like, this is in order. That is an order. You go from beginning to end, dog.
SPEAKER_03Okay, continue. Okay, well then what do you want to do fucking second by second minute by the minute of this movie? Like, come on. We know how this this movie's already been out for almost 20 years. We know he dies. Anton doesn't die, he walks away. Yeah. Tommy Lee Jones doesn't die. When I'll get into I want to get into that also why he doesn't die. Because he's a smart old man. So yeah, okay, so But yes, but Lou Allen is prey. He is showing a scene prey, and then he's he is prey, is what I'm getting at. Again, it's just their whole show don't tell meta the whole theme is I'm gonna just point out those things when they show. And then I don't know, he's just hiking that's when he just comes across the fucking the shootout scene, the goddamn GCA mission. Yeah, and then he he is smart about it, he's like, I'm just gonna wait and watch.
SPEAKER_02Yes, so and also too, uh it I think it just that whole scene in general, when he shoots the deer, he He hits it like in the butt, kinda like towards the end, and then so it runs off. And so he follows the blood trail, and then he sees another blood tra another blood trail because it's a dog, because it's the dog limping. And so he looks through his binoculars and he sees that it's a dog.
SPEAKER_03And then he looks he goes the opposite way to the body.
SPEAKER_02So he yeah, so basically where the dog came from. And then he's tracked it. Yeah, he sees five cars at the at the drug deal. Yeah. The drug deal. And then uh sees a bunch of dead bodies. Yep. And he he has his rifle ready. And so but to that it's like it shows, like, even from when he fires his shot at the deer. Mm-hmm. Right, he has his um he has his boot on the rock as kind of like, I don't know what it would be. A stabilizer, just something he's gonna do. So it's like there's this kind of like he knows what he's doing. Yeah, he knows how to handle himself. And then it ends up being like, yeah, he was in Vietnam. Did two tours in Vietnam.
SPEAKER_03And so But that just goes to show that he That's part of it, he has some strategy in this, but it's also it also ties into the next part where while he he meets the one survivor in the car. Like I'm I want like his resourcefulness after that, where he's also saying about like, okay, you follow your backtrack out, and then you watched your step like he's narrating what the last person was done because he's like, Where's the last man at with the money? There's all these dead bodies, all these drugs, there's gotta be fucking money here somewhere.
SPEAKER_02You stop to watch your backtrack and then shoot my dumb ass.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. That's him narrating about what he's doing and trying to look for the last man. But hang on, we so we you wanna go in order. He talks about the one survivor he comes across in the massacre who's just like, Do you have any agua? Like he needs to get water, and then he's like, I got no agua. Which is also dumb. How does he not have any water in the middle of the fucking desert? He doesn't have any water on him, maybe? I know, and he doesn't, not even his truck, and I'm like, damn bro, I know he's resourceful, but he's just tugging it out like that, dehydrating. That is crazy. Because I don't know, I get so hot thinking about that part, bro. I'm like, they are in the middle of fucking Texas in the desert like that, and I'm just like, I'm thirsty thinking about it right now. And then that's why he's just and he knows too, there's gotta be money left over. And that's why he's like, he wants to go find it. And that's why he just goes and he finds that.
SPEAKER_02And he also he's he's also taking the guns that he's seen down.
SPEAKER_03He grabs like a fucking machine gun, he grabs another little cool pistol.
SPEAKER_02There's a really cool pistol that he gets from the game. From the get in place. Yeah. He gets it from the getting place. It is the get in place.
SPEAKER_03It is because he gets it from there. And he doesn't tell his wife a lie, and I kind of love that. Yeah. Dude, their interactions are so awesome. They are. That's the I don't want to see one with the prequel. You want a romance about them? His mom and then his mother-in-law be so me! She's gonna cuss you up and down. Well, you should be used to that.
SPEAKER_02Mary three years ago. I said three years ago, no and good. My money smooth. Also, I know we're getting I know I gave you shit for getting out of the topic, but um, when when she's in the taxi, she's like, you know how many people I know in O'Heckaso. Yeah, El Paso, Texas, and she holds up a zero in the vein. That's how many. It's like I love her.
SPEAKER_03I love her, but I also hate her because she's the only gets me killed. Because when she tells the Mexican gangsters, oh my god, but you just tell them everything.
SPEAKER_02Okay, to that to that part. She's like, uh the guy's walking up to him, she's like, It's not very often you see a Mexican in a suit.
SPEAKER_04I love them, bro.
SPEAKER_03And she's all like so off. It's like, okay, you're in a suit, I'll tell you any every fucking thing, I guess. Oh my god. But yes, that is a savage mother-in-law. That's why But Lou Alan. That's why. But I also think the fact that he didn't have water and he goes, he finds the monies. And then what? It's back to then? Is that when it cuts to Antoine again? Or no, it's him under the house.
SPEAKER_00Okay, so follows uh.
SPEAKER_03Because I know Antoine has the interaction, the gas station interaction, before he meets managerial guys. Because I know that's why it was tied into he didn't get his his release of killing them, that's why he killed them later.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so um Lowell and under the house. So when he finds okay, so he finds the money, there's um he opens the satchel, he looks at the dead body, and then he's looking at the stacks of money and he goes, Yeah. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03This is what it is.
SPEAKER_02I think yep, he's like, yep, this is what it is. Okay. And there's stacks of ten thousand dollars and hundreds. He goes through one stack.
SPEAKER_03And it looks like it's the same stack that had the receiver. I'm sorry, but later on when you're gonna be able to do that. No, it's a couple of things.
SPEAKER_02It's like literally like two or three down. It's not even that much. I wrote that down. Ten uh stacks of ten thousand dollars and a hundred uh only goes through one. Stupid. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Then the next scene he drives home. Sorry, go ahead. There was a funny joke that I heard in another podcast. They were saying, like, see, I would have survived this because I would have maybe went home and dumped it and rolled around in that cash, and then I would have seen the receiver. And I was like, I would have seen that. I'd I I'd do that too, probably.
SPEAKER_02He didn't. Even when I first watched it, I was like, they're tracking the money. I didn't I mean I wouldn't know the word transponder or whatever. Yeah. But it's like I would know you you you gotta know they're tracking.
SPEAKER_03You know where all your money is. I was a little uh at the I feel like at the time I always think about Kill Bill. I just think there's a snake in that case, just like the once you put the fucking snake in the killbill case of money. I don't remember that movie. I didn't watch it, but that's what I think about when I think cases of money, I don't think about being attracted. I think about fucking snake in there, and when you go two stacks deep, that snake just like oh that's what I would think about that case. But so then he does so then it goes to the home, right?
SPEAKER_02So then after the money, uh after he gets the money, he checks the stacks or the one stack, uh he drives to his home, to a trailer, and then he does a little he looks around a little bit, and then he there's like a little fencing underneath his trailer, he pryes it off, and then he hides his guns and stuff like that. Yeah, he hides the money in the safe. I think it's just the guns. I don't think it's the money. No, it's the thing. Yeah, it's not the money. It's just the guns. Because that's right now he pulls it out. It's not it's not the satchel. Because she asks him what's in the satchel when he walks in there. So he's just hiding his guns underneath.
SPEAKER_03Are you sure she didn't see the satchel go put under the house?
SPEAKER_02No, because she was sitting on the couch when he walked in.
SPEAKER_03No, but then she saw him putting the guns in there, she's like, what are you doing? And he's like, nothing. And then that's when she was like, what's in the satchel?
SPEAKER_02No, that's him. She's on the she's on the couch. I mean, maybe she does.
SPEAKER_03She hears him scrambling in the house. Yeah, that's fine. And that's when that's when we the scene transitions, and that's when we see him at home now. Because he's scrambling in the house. Oh no, but you're right. But anyway, she does say, what was in the satchel?
SPEAKER_02Yeah. So Luella walks in, there's an old TV show on that's playing on, I don't know.
SPEAKER_03I love how you have all this detail. It's a little bit of a channel.
SPEAKER_02And then uh it says the show that's in the background. Yeah, yeah, it says uh yours is the first dancer and door will look if they and then the woman interrupts if they know. And so it's kind of like um to me, it's like the Danzer and Dora will look if they know. If they wait say that again? So there's a TV show on. Okay. It's and I uh you can't really hear it. I had it on subtitles. Okay. And so the quote is This is a TV show. The TV show is the there's a per there's a guy talking. This is what she this is what the guy is saying. Danzer and Dora will look if they. He's cut off.
SPEAKER_03Wait, what's the first part?
SPEAKER_02What are the words you're saying? Deandralora? Danzer. Danzer and Dora. And Dora, okay. Will look if they. Will look if they. He is cut off.
SPEAKER_03Okay.
SPEAKER_02The woman interrupts if they know. And so that's kind of like. To me, it's if the Mexicans and the Americans will look for you if they know you have the money, if they know who you are. I love you, bro.
SPEAKER_03I can tell this is a favorite movie of yours. Yes.
SPEAKER_02And then uh Llewellyn passes by his beautiful wife, passes by his beautiful wife, Carla Jean. What's in the satchel? Does that whole thing? It's full of money. He doesn't lie there.
SPEAKER_03He's like, where'd you get that gun?
SPEAKER_02That would be the day.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. Where'd you get that gun? From the get in place. And then what do you think she refers to? Which is means about how much money did we get for it? You know, the thing or whatever.
SPEAKER_02Wait, what? Oh, she goes, um how much money did we get for it? Did you buy that gun? No, I found it. And then he goes, um What did you get for that thing? So it's basically like, um, how did you like what did you have to give up for that?
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's what you think she refers to.
SPEAKER_02Or like, how'd you get it, basically?
SPEAKER_03And that's what he was like, never you mind.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, you don't need to know everything. And she goes, I need to know that.
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. You keep talking about you in the back and screw you a big talk.
SPEAKER_02I know. Yeah. Do you think she kept talking about it?
SPEAKER_03Oh yeah. Mm-hmm. He cracks open the beer. Mm-hmm. And then it cuts to them laying in fucking bed in the middle night, and he's just lying awake thinking about how he should take water. Yeah, fucking this.
SPEAKER_02That's why I think they didn't fuck, bro.
SPEAKER_03I think he was too torn up about it. He should have went meme's after a good fuck. Especially finding $2 million fuck. I don't think they fucked, bro. But it was still very hot to say. And then she gave it a nice little cute face. She's like, that'll be the day. No, what did she say? Uh big talk. She does say big talk. Yeah, she says big talk. That's why she knew. She knew she wasn't gonna get it, bro. But then she also doesn't realize. But my husband found two million dollars.
SPEAKER_02I think that's just too that that's just like how they are.
SPEAKER_03Like that's what married life is like, and we'll never know until we're married.
SPEAKER_02Well, that's what their marriage is like. I think they have a great relationship. I like to I like to think that.
SPEAKER_03I do like that. I like to think that. I think it's cute, yeah. You could tell, like, she's probably a little younger, maybe they were like a couple years different in high school and came back from Enam or something and they got together. But her mom shit about him. What? Her mama don't think shit about him. No. No, she thinks good.
SPEAKER_02She said those, she said those exact words. Mm-hmm. Um so okay, so here's I don't have much negative things to say about this movie. But are you gonna hate on the fact that he goes back and gives the wall? No. Okay. Not necessarily. Okay. Because I understand it, right? He he feels guilty. Yeah. I got two million dollars and I got yeah. And and there's that guy, because his um I mean he's dying. He's shot up. He's sitting he's sitting in that ch he's sitting in that car, he's dying.
SPEAKER_03That's probably like middle of the day, and you're going back in the middle of the night. Like, you really think he's gonna be alive still? He just feels that bad about it. Yeah. Gotta go take him to the water. Yeah, it's something that's bugging him. Well, fix him to do something stupid, yeah. Dude, but then it but hang on, before we get into that, he's just like, tell mother I love her. She's like, well.
SPEAKER_02That's what I want to get into. Your mother's dead. That's what I want to get into. Because it's fucking stupid the way he says that. No, I think he's. Yes, it is, because he says, if I don't come back, you tell mother I love her. And then she's like, Your mother's dead. Well then I'll tell her myself. He's being ominous. He's being a fucking drama queen. I wrote that. That's a pretty dramatic. I wrote that in my quote. Fucking drama queen. Look at this real quick, bro. Let me see.
SPEAKER_03Turn it. Fucking drama queen. Fucking drama queen, yep. I wrote it in.
SPEAKER_02It's always bugged me because it's like he he wants what you know what he wants? He wants her to be like, oh, what are you gonna do? Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Just so that way he can be like, I'm not even gonna tell you. Or don't or or maybe she'd be like, don't go. You think that? I don't know. No, I think he's being a fucking I think he's being a fucking drama queen. That's it. That's okay. You want to go back to Sash Talk right now? Because I know somebody else is being a drama king, and you're absolutely right. That's something that could be saying a response to trigger a response. He's being right, yeah. But to me, it's just you think he was kind of scared that he might die a little bit, bro.
SPEAKER_02Yes, obviously, because he's like, you know, tell her mom, then I'll tell her myself because I'm going to be dead then going to hell with it.
SPEAKER_03Be there about 15 minutes.
SPEAKER_02Be there about 15 minutes. So I just I just thought that was very like I just I don't like the dialogue. I don't like that dialogue. I just didn't think it was good.
SPEAKER_03Is that right out of the book though?
SPEAKER_02Uh I think so. I don't remember. But I don't like it. I know that. Fair enough, fair enough. And then so he pulls up uh near the shootout, looking at a map, he parks on a hill overlooking the scene, walks out with water. Yep. And then he sees the car, the dying man was in, and now there's blood on the driver's hand.
SPEAKER_03Now here's something else though. And not only that, the door is closed. He left the door open. Yes. Because he was like, close it because of the wolves. And he's like, there you know, wolves out here. And then he left the girl and walked away. Came back in the middle of the night. That's when he knew something was wrong because the door was fucking closed. And then when he opened it, and then he realized, oh, somebody still shot that dying man in the fucking head. And then that's when he realized, oh shit, somebody's been here. And then he turns and then he knows there's another truck next to his fucking truck.
SPEAKER_02Or does he maybe hear the he's uh there's a blood on the driver's side window and it's shot out. Looks back to his truck and it's gone. Or it's the other truck. Nope, nope. It's alone. Okay, that's what I wrote down. It's alone. And so I said, like, he looks back and he's and it's alone and it's pretty far away. Right? It's alone.
SPEAKER_03No, it's a good shot of uh.
SPEAKER_02Right, but I'm just thinking uh it's not even necessarily that it's alone. Well, I mean it's kind of far.
SPEAKER_03It's like a hundred yards away. Right.
SPEAKER_02So it's like in my head, he's like thinking, like, fuck, if shit goes down, I have to. I'm far away from my truck. So it's too far. Maybe it's too far for his liking. Then he pulls out his uh shiny pistol, and then the one he got from the get in place. Yeah. And then uh dead man sitting there. Moss turns to see his car now with another car next to it, and some people are talking. They pop the tires, and then Moss hides behind the car. Yeah, one of the cars.
SPEAKER_03Plus they get in their car and turn it on and they start coming towards him. That's why he does it.
SPEAKER_02Yes, uh, the men get into their car, turn on the headlights, and they got roof lights too. And then uh little spotlights. I think the passenger driver has like a light shining too. I think he does. There's there's definitely a light coming from his there's the lights on top, there's his headlights and then two big old side ones.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah. Like the ones you would use to look kind of like and they are speaking Spanish because they say like there he is and stuff, and then like they start shooting at him. They give him a good chase. I don't know.
SPEAKER_02Dude, I love that scene of him running and it's dark, and like you see the lights kind of like from the car like bouncing because of the terrain is so rough, and like the lights are closer and closer to him.
SPEAKER_03Yes, and then he's yes, I think that's a good chase too. Because the terrain is so fucked up, so it's not like they wouldn't be able to run him down so fast. And they're still trying to shoot at him while he's running, and because it's bouncing so much, it gets fucking missed. But then just how also the fact of how you sing the lights and stuff, he really basically went out there close to sunrise because at the end of the sequence of shots, he's it's sunrise. The sun is coming up, yeah. Because he's getting chased, he does get shot before ledge, and then he falls into a river.
SPEAKER_02He's trying to get to a river, he's running to a ledge and he's like slowing down because it's like a drop-off. And so that's when he gets popped. He gets shot in the shoulder and he kind of rolls out. That throws his ass through the gets thrown off the mountain.
SPEAKER_03But then he was part of the plan, he's like, he's gonna get in the river, because he goes there, he takes off his shoes, he takes off his boots, then a dog gets out of the car and he chases him, bro. Dude, I was thinking about okay. I was also talking about I was thinking about this at the point of the movie. This movie is so good you overlook dog death. You overlook one of your main characters killing a dog. Nobody would like to see a dog get killed. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02That's a good point, because I've certainly it's not sad to me.
SPEAKER_03Okay, well maybe you're just the him then, motherfucker. Well, okay, but it's also not meant to be like it's not as sad as Will Smith killing his dog and fucking. Like, this is not a prime thing. Like, and it's also not like Sandy being killed in the beginning of session. Like, this is just like this is a dog who is a little soldier dog, you're going to go, he's also trying to do violence on your main character, and you want one of your main characters to survive. But it's also like, technically he shoots a dog and you like you don't feel bad. Like that's why he jumps at him and whimpers. It does get whimper, yeah.
SPEAKER_02He does whimper.
SPEAKER_03That dog is honestly that dog was a brave little soldier who almost got his fucking prey. Like, literally, he was mid-leap when he got got. Like that dog was yoke at striking his dogs. Like, dude, what's that scene?
SPEAKER_02Like, that dog is gaining on him in the water. Um has a funny story about that scene. Uh the like the behind the scenes he's talking about um that scene like being shot. And he's saying that uh as he's doing it, he just remembers the dog and then the the trainer, I guess, of the dog.
SPEAKER_01He's like, Scooby!
SPEAKER_02Because the real dog name is Scooby. And so he's like, Scooby, Scooby! And then Josh Rowland's panicking, and he's saying, like, get the dog, get the dog. So that dog really was chasing after the dog, dog. Like it was chasing after him. And then they were Scooby. What's so funny about that scene? Yeah, because the dog that it does show when they're swimming down the river, it does show the dog swimming. Yeah. And he does do a great job. Like, the dog is just like panting and like almost like he's very energetic. It's a very energetic dog. It's like just funny to me. Because it's kind of like the dog is like swimming is that it's not on screen for us right now. He's going to ball acting anymore. He's not acting anymore. Scooby is not acting, bro.
SPEAKER_03Scooby is trying to kill Josh Brolin. Damn, but yeah, but yes, but yes, that's why I was like, I'm so good. We don't even feel sad that a dog gets shot by this. And it's like, okay. I don't even say we can't.
SPEAKER_02It's mostly just context, right?
SPEAKER_03And it's also and it's really good tension because he gets out and he's got to dry off the pistol real quick and he's woofing.
SPEAKER_02And he does like a cool, like he shakes the clip out like that.
SPEAKER_03Yes, he gets the water out, and then that's why he's just and he's blowing like on the firing pin, because you need it to cause a spark to make the explosion and make a gun go boom. And then it's just like, but it it was really cool where it's like again, he wouldn't have known that unless he had military service, like he's resourceful like that, and he had some training, and it's just like and he knew he's like as soon as I get to the the shore, turn around, get a firing stance, and draw a beat on this attacker who's pursuing me, who happens to be the furriest little soldier that could, man. Or a little Scooby. I know all how's bowing. Okay, so also we do see dead dogs at the original scene of Carnage. We forgot to mention that, but that's also why like we know, I guess, these Mexican drug dealers use dogs, and because it's the same kind of and there was the wounded dog that we see crossing his path.
SPEAKER_02So it's like and it is, yeah, so and then yeah, so this would be the Mexican's dog. Like those the Mexicans use the dogs.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, they were the first people at the scene to get him there too, yes. And then so then after that, then is that when we see Antoine Shigar again, or is that when we see it?
SPEAKER_02Real quick, back onto the dog death scene. Okay. After he shot, you could see the dog twitching in the background. I've seen that, yeah.
SPEAKER_03So it took the dog a second to die there. But he did get black.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so after after that, he's um there's a little quick scene. He is He wraps his shirt around. He's wrapping up his feet. And then I didn't catch this until the book, but he is picking out his shirt because the bullets Oh, shot the shirt.
SPEAKER_03Okay, I saw that he was pulling something out, but then.
SPEAKER_02So he's picking out his shirt because the bullets packed it into his skin. That is intense.
SPEAKER_03I was always wondering what he did. I was like, did he already get like sunburn? He's pulling off some skin, but no, it's his shirt.
SPEAKER_02And that's kind of like show don't tell because you wouldn't have that.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, that's a little scene that you wouldn't be like, of course, oh he got a shot, he's picking it. But you don't realize no, he's picking his fucking shirt out of the that's really cool.
SPEAKER_02And then uh he to me, this scene is what shout like is what originally told me like this guy is pretty because he's like he's looking out at traffic and he's he's got his cloth in his mouth, like his shirt, and he's just ripping it and tearing it, and then he makes shit makeshift shit.
SPEAKER_03He knows he needs he lost his own.
SPEAKER_02Because he's gonna it later on it it shows um bliss for that feet. So yes, and then the next scene is the gas scene.
SPEAKER_03Okay, wait, real quick though, you know what I realized too though? This has Anton Sugar. So the gas scene you're talking about? No, no, not even the gas scene. I was just in the sense that from the beginning, when we first meet two of our characters, one of them his wrist get hurt, and he has his advantages the rest of the movie. Anton Sugar's wrist get hurt from the hand cup thing. Josh Rowland's his fucking feet get hurt. That's like these are ongoing injuries you don't realize they fucking have the whole rest of the movie. Well, I guess Josh Brolin also gets shot. And I was like, I don't know, but you realize because they incorporate some fucking injuries through, but it's like this motherfucker is just like he's just going, like you don't you see how fucked up his feet are real quick when he comes on. And I'm just like, I don't even see that again the rest of the day. I mean the rest of the the fucking shit that goes down. Like he's not really limping on his feet.
SPEAKER_02Like not until he's limping till he's limping, like he's just toughness out. He's just like he's the new man. Maybe okay, so it ain't a country for him either, because it could have been.
SPEAKER_03It could have been. Could have been if you just checked more than one stack of cash. Dude, for real, for real, man. He could have had her Wellington. His mother-in-law maybe would have finally said something nice, alright? That's all. That's all I want. I doubt it. This is even went too many. She even died in cancer hating. Okay. Think about the oh his wife, no, he's not his wife. Okay.
SPEAKER_02Uh so then you said So after he gets chased by the dog scene, is so after the chase scene, uh, it's that quick little scene of him pack taking the shirt that's packed into his skin and then the makeshift shoes, and then you see the and then it's the gas station scene.
SPEAKER_03Nice. Where Which at this point, Anton Shiger should not he still wouldn't know about this or was not hired for investigating or following money. It's just him interacting and go just walking into the gas station. Because it's that night. He must have he must have some connection to the drugs or too. I think he's just like the demon who's attracted to violence.
SPEAKER_02That's all he's agents too. Okay. I like okay, so part of it to me is like what I love about this movie so much is that like this world is lived in. We don't need to know why.
SPEAKER_03That's true too.
SPEAKER_02Anton Shigore, the less we know about them, the better.
SPEAKER_03He's unnatural. He's unnatural, is what you're saying. So you're saying he's inhuman. No, I'm saying I shouldn't say unnatural. You meant inhu uh inhumane or un like what did you say? He's just so alien. Alien, yes, that's what I meant. Like he's just that's how I guess also unnatural. He's just like he really is alien to the people. He's also like Javier Bardem's got big old eyes and the accent, and they put like pale kind of makeup on him too, just make them look creepy. And he's weird. The weirdest fucked up haircut on purpose, too. They talk about like they laugh about how they gave him the haircut. Like Javier Bradem talks about how sad he was about it. Yes. And they talk about like one of his first English roles or something like that, or one of the other ones? Yeah. And they some of his.
SPEAKER_02I think it was I saw I saw it on a clip of a Conan O'Brien uh the talk show where he says that um the Cohen brothers, the Cohen brothers went up to him, he says, I don't like guns, yeah, I don't drive, and I don't speak very good English, and he had to do anything.
SPEAKER_03And those are like the only human things that he does. Yep. And I heard that he had to do his lines phonetically a little bit. Okay. So that's how he got through the English part.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because re watching it, you can tell an accent. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03But to me, it it it only I think it only helps uh emphasize the alieness of it. You can't pinpoint a little unnecessary.
SPEAKER_02He speaks Spanish. Yes.
SPEAKER_03But like he has an accent.
SPEAKER_02Just the way he talks is like so weird.
SPEAKER_03And he's he's clipped. So it's also a thing about this gas station stink that we're about to get into. And I think that's another perfect example of his social interactions. Because I'd say he really only has four-ish interactions, like two of them are business, and then two of them are social, and it's gas station, and then the lady who's in charge of the trailer park with the Alan lives. So I'll get in that in a second. Those are those are what? Social? Social. Those are the social even though he's I guess that's all on the state of his own. I wanna I wanna I do okay, go ahead. But that's only because those other two guys, they're managerial, they're giving him the business of stuff. And like you said about it's the tool thing, which now I'm starting I can see that too. And then the other part is when he's going and shooting Bill Dautrie, Dodal Fontaine. And then also Woody Harrelson, is because but those are that's kinda like that's business kinda. That's him telling the two. The other two is why he's flipping coin, kinda, and why he's unsure about whether to kill him or not. I think it's social upsetting. Yeah. And so that's because and I was gonna say, does he make he doesn't make the lady flip coin, right?
SPEAKER_02Which lady? Oh, at the treasure park? Yeah. No.
SPEAKER_03No, he doesn't make that coin.
SPEAKER_02No.
SPEAKER_03So I feel like there was another God, there was another thing I was trying to remember. Okay, gas that you think about him and his social interactions. About how clipped he is and how because even like the old man is kind of like, oh, how's the weather for you? Can you get any rain where you're from? And then he's like, how do you even know where I'm from? Like what the fuck is that?
SPEAKER_02So to me um He asks he a Anton asks for the price of the snacks. Yeah. And then 69 cents 69 cents noise. Um and the clerk, Y'all get any rain up your way. And then Anton says, What way would that be? Well, I assume he was from Dallas. What businesses of yours were I'm from, Brando? So to me it's like Anton wouldn't have done anything to him. Uh but because he asked that question of like, where are you like uh Because he tried to go more in the state? And so true to to a gas station clerk, seeing the seeing a person's license plate and making a small talk is nothing is not a big deal.
SPEAKER_03Five people a day, so of course he's gonna be a member. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02It's not a big deal.
SPEAKER_03But to an is from a time where let's be polite when they say this is no country for him.
SPEAKER_02But it is because he he makes it. But I feel like to Anton, there is like, no, you don't you don't ask me where I'm from. That's still invasive. Yeah. That's invasive. That's too invasive. Because of who he is. Um people don't ask where I'm from. Because if they do, they're trying to find out about me.
SPEAKER_03Or he's used or he's used to people not wanting to talk about it.
SPEAKER_02Not wanting to interact with him. That's yeah. Yeah. But I but I feel like that specific line of I s uh did you get any rain up your way? I see I've seen you was from Dallas.
SPEAKER_03Um the fact that he's like that, this guy's trying to figure him out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and so I think Anton is taking it the wrong way, where he's like, he's there's something nefarious with this gas station, like in Anton's mind, yeah. There's something nefarious about him. He's trying to find out about me. And that's when he's and so that's when he starts, that's when he brings out he he gives him a tough, he gives him a rough time.
SPEAKER_03And he gives him like he's just like, where is the sass coming from?
SPEAKER_02But he's just like he goes, uh, right, like he says, uh, what business of yours where I'm from? And he says, didn't mean nothing by it. And then Anton didn't mean nothing by it. Like mocking him. Yeah, he did. Like he so he and I wanna later on I want to bring this up again. He's kind of like toying with him. Or like he's teasing him in a little or like just intimidating him. He's an ultra killer prior. Yeah, that's what he's alienating, but yeah. So then he says, I was just passing the time. If you don't want to accept that, I don't know what else I can do for you. And then in my notes I said clerk, the clerk fucked up. Yeah. But the clerk and then he says uh the clerk says, Will it will there be something else? And then Anton, I don't know, will there?
SPEAKER_03Mm-hmm. And then that's when he just goes that's when Antoine was like, you know what? Maybe there will. Maybe I will kill you or not, because I've gotten the urge to kill now, which again ties up what the fuck he is. And that's why it's bullshit where he's like, I'll use the coin now. Like, that's why I think to Antoine it's also a game, kinda. Or maybe he was just like, you know what? Nothing was gonna happen to this store clerk until he invaded my privacy. Until he asked this. He's like, uh, you're away. And then he's like, What do you mean? Like, what is it about me? And then that's when he also wants to learn about him, and then he's just like, So you married into this? Like, how does he even get to that where he's just like oh you've been here your whole life? Have you been here your whole life?
SPEAKER_02No. It's like you live in that house out back.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and then that's when he was just like, Why don't I come back later on and fucking We'd be closed by then? Yeah, why would you come back then?
SPEAKER_02It and then Which is actually hold like to say that, like, um he I think he says like what time do you go to bed? Yes. And he goes like around nine, nine thirty and she says, I can come back around then, around then, that kind of frightening.
SPEAKER_03You're right, and then it's like that's why it's like this old man knows this little I'm moving. Yeah, he's still trying to be polite as possible, but he's also like overclosed now. Like, can you leave, please? Like, you know, I love that.
SPEAKER_02I love that scene. He's like, uh, oh, I'm about to close up now. It's like what time do you close? Now dark. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03He's like, well, normally close up around dark.
SPEAKER_02Like, and then it's just like and then back to like him teasing them and or playing with him, he goes, You're a bit deaf, aren't you? Like he talks a little louder. Yes, he does. Because he keeps on asking, What?
SPEAKER_03What? You're a bit deaf, aren't you? And then that's just like and then he's again he's just like, Well, we got this from my wife's father. So you marry it. He's smacking and he literally laughing at him about that. He made him laugh. And then he's just like, Are you married into this? And he's like, No, we raised a family in Temple, Texas for many years. In Temple. And yeah, in Temple. And then just like, you're married into it. He's like, Well, I guess that's one way.
SPEAKER_02If you want to put it that way, like there is no way.
SPEAKER_03You married into it. And then but he's not even offended by that too, even though he's still creeped up by everything else. He's just like, Yeah, I guess so. I never thought about it like that. It's like he probably just thought about as helping out his wife's father who didn't want to get rid of the gas station and didn't have anything else to do, I bet. I don't know what the normal little man's life was. What was the Temple Texas years like? Doesn't matter. Yeah, you're right.
SPEAKER_02But to to that saying or to that to what I was saying earlier, where it's like this world is already lived in, and it's characters like that, where it's like, we raised a family up in there in temple. Mm-hmm. And then like this world still lived in this gas, yeah, and then this is what he's doing now. Just and i even to the even to that uh um to this no controlled man's like even even though he lived because of the call because of the call of the coin, which I kinda want to get into right now, but just his just his whole situation, he this is an example of the old timers not knowing not knowing how to deal with the new generation or the this new kind of criminal where it's like this dude was just one just wanted to create small talk. He probably would have never even remembered where he where this guy came from if he said yes there was rain. He just was k uh making small talk. Well he does too, because he's customer service. Yeah, and he's just being polite. Like he doesn't care if it rained over there, he's just making small talk. But with given the context of who Anton Shagur is that we know, it's like that's you don't want to do that. Yeah, you don't do that. So again, kinda in a way it's no country for old men.
SPEAKER_03It is gener it's generational, and then whatever the fuck Anton Shagur is is his new It's also just the the decline of politeness in society. That's all Yes, but okay, so um I also want to talk about Show Don't Tell, and I've I talked to you this before about how why is there just they just cut away to the rapper unraveling in this entire interaction.
SPEAKER_05Cinema.
SPEAKER_03It is because it's all about the tension of it, because it gets crumbled up and then it kind of just releasing it releases slowly. Okay, because you don't think it I can't even still that that is again from the fucking blank check pod. But it was just like that's which was why obsessed with it. Yeah, that's why I was like, I know this sticks out, like why does it stick out?
SPEAKER_02And it's like I I I thought that scene like there's a theme, there's a reason why it it it just it uncles unravels.
SPEAKER_03It's like the nuts he was eating, yeah, and it was, and it's because he wasn't gonna die. It was a releasing in a way you didn't expect. You think he's gonna fucking kill it. We've seen Antoine kill everybody at this point. Well, he's only killed two people. He's only killed two people, but everybody would kill it.
SPEAKER_02He's come across, yeah.
SPEAKER_03And that's why this little gas station clerk is the one that got away.
SPEAKER_02And there is like an evil, an evilness to Anton, because he would have killed this man.
SPEAKER_03100%, which is why I'm saying, like, he wants to kill. He's just using the coin as an excuse. Yeah. Because again, why did he kill? I know you're talking about the two tools for the right job, but the of those two guys. They weren't even the tools for the job. They're just the guy they're the tools that were telling him the tool what to do. Like, they're not the tools for the job. That's true. But I also do I just And he didn't even flip any coin for them. He didn't give them any choice. That's why he just said, I'm just gonna kill him because I want to like I didn't get to kill the gas station clerk earlier when he pissed me off, but like because they didn't make any small talk, they were all business.
SPEAKER_02To me, they kept I I don't like that idea that he wants to kill, like he gets enjoyment out of killing. I don't even okay.
SPEAKER_03I wouldn't say enjoyment, it's just that he wants to. It's compulsion. It's that can be true. Because it also ties into why he's gonna kill Ron's wife later. It's not even he's not even happy about it, it's not even pleasurable, it's just he gave his word. Yeah. He gave his word.
SPEAKER_02And that's to those are I don't want to go off topic too much because I do want to talk more about the gas station. Yeah. But that scene right there is so He has a set of rules. And so that's why I'd say like I don't want to I don't like the idea that he enjoys killing, and I'm not enjoying it's compulsion to kill. But it's a compulsion to kill, but it's that just it's just he follows his own rules.
SPEAKER_03That's so and sometimes maybe he that's why he followed the rules with the coin guy, and he followed that rule, but there was no rules for the other two guys, and that's why he's like, I'm just gonna fucking kill him. Or again, maybe it's like using the course of business.
SPEAKER_02There are people in his way because that too. The old man that he he popped after the old man that he pulled over, he it's he's just in his way. He needed his car.
SPEAKER_03And gas station guy not in his way, and that's why whatever it was. The gas station to him, he probably the gas station guy put himself in his way when he asks the invasive question.
SPEAKER_02But that's putting up your whole life, you just didn't know it.
SPEAKER_03Exactly. That's they asked, okay, so back to that, just like, well, what am I putting up for? Like, because he was like, Call it. You're like, it's not fair for me to call it. That too, it would have been his fucking life. And then that's why he was also like, it's not up to me. No, no, no, I can't call it, it's not fair.
SPEAKER_02Yes, so that's what I want to talk about with the coin toss. Where it is because I was thinking about this in the shower one time because I was like, No. Yes. Uh where he goes, where he's the just the idea of him tossing a coin. And I was thinking about it because I was watching this, there's an old TV show, I forgot the name of what it was called, but is it called Batman?
SPEAKER_03Because Harvey Two Face?
SPEAKER_02No. It was it was just like some I don't know. But he goes like it was a guy who was kind of going I think it's it's going deep with some some T some some yes, uh-huh. But uh he goes like he goes into top deep topic topic or he goes deep into simple topics like tying your shoes, and there was an episode about coin flipping.
SPEAKER_05Okay.
SPEAKER_02And the whole point was like, can you control a coin flip?
unknownUh-huh.
SPEAKER_02And so I was thinking like there's in a way, like, could there be Anton making the decisions for these people, but no, because he flips the coin and he makes them call it. Right? And then he even says, I can't call it for you, that wouldn't be fair.
SPEAKER_03That's true. So because he wants to kill you, and it wouldn't be fair for him to just kill. Right. He's finding an excuse. There is his role.
SPEAKER_02There is this sense of it's uh it's 50-50, it's up to chance. It's just it's out, it's out there.
SPEAKER_03It's like But then it's not once he's made the decision to kill you, kinda. Like he does use an excuse, but that's why, like that's why it's supposed to be a good one.
SPEAKER_02Just for this coin in general, just for the coin in specifics, like why he uses the coin.
SPEAKER_03Is it because Tommy Lee Jones also plays somebody who used a coin and Tommy Jones is in this movie? No. Okay, just making sure. I just thought about that earlier when I saw how we did it. Oh, can make it again. Yeah. There was a joke there for that. And you made it. I did. Thank you. I didn't put that together, but yes. Nothing's gonna beat the Nicky Freeman thing from earlier. No. But but that's why when he sang, like, I can't call it, like, that's kind of I don't know. He can't, because according to his own rules, which is why. Again, it's like maybe he doesn't enjoy it. He still is compul he feels compulsory to do this, though. He does kill. And it's maybe what he enjoys is sticking to his own.
SPEAKER_02There is the um or he knows the compulsion to need to kill. It could be, but it it's also it's like I said before, where he just doesn't care, he doesn't value these people. He doesn't value these people. So whether or not this gas station clerk dies, whether or not those two people he shot, if it doesn't matter to them. It doesn't matter.
SPEAKER_03It doesn't matter to him. It matters to the coin. He makes the coin I don't know.
SPEAKER_02I don't think it I don't think it's not that it matters to the coin. I it's just like I'm just saying he wants to kill. I guess he wants to kill the kill. Yeah, I see what you're saying. Okay.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Right? Like that's because again, it's like sometimes if people are in his way, you're right, he does have to blab them. And again, like when he clears out the room full of the Mexican gangster, he's like, it's self-defense, and he's trying to do his job and get the money, and he's like, I think the money's in here full, he's made with guns, of course I'm gonna fight him.
SPEAKER_02Because like he still but it's also like But even if there even if they weren't they didn't have guns, if he had for some way for some reason went into the wrong room, he'd still kill them and search the room. Because he doesn't care. I would say this.
SPEAKER_03He went into that room because he thought he thought it was a tri- and it is, it is actually but I'm just saying, like I would say the only point that maybe thinks that is why does he let that little counter live though when he goes and kills it? I would I want to get back into I want to I want to talk about that. But but back to gas stations. Yes. Have we exhausted everything? So then he does they flip the coin, he lets the old man live, and then where does it go to from there?
SPEAKER_02And so there's a great little scene where he Oh oh no, never mind.
SPEAKER_03I do okay, there's one more. Say what you're gonna say. So don't put it in your pocket.
SPEAKER_02Don't put it in your pocket, and he walks away paying for gas and the little snack for just one quarter.
SPEAKER_03He doesn't even pay snack.
SPEAKER_02He does not pay for full price of anything. Well, you know what in his eyes he's paid for the guy's life. He also paid for gas. Yes. Okay, that's true. Because he says the gas and the snacks, yeah.
SPEAKER_03No, no, no.
SPEAKER_02He says, what's the price of the snacks? Uh how much how much do I owe you? Or is it snacks? Yes, about the price of the snacks and the gas and the and the gas. Gotcha. So he but he walks away, I assume he filled up his tank.
SPEAKER_03Maybe.
SPEAKER_02And then he walked away with a quarter.
SPEAKER_03No, it's because it the quarter was worth that man's life. He paid for that man's life. That's what it was. And then he gives him like a little like he lifts up his eyebrows, like, eh?
SPEAKER_02But that was the most emotion we get out of him.
SPEAKER_03I think that was what I was gonna say too, about why he he he's kind of full of shit when he uses the coin thing because he was like, then it just becomes another quarter. Which it is. Because he's like, there's nothing special about the coins or the coin flipping I do. I think is what he's meaning by that. He's like, it's just it is. And he's like, I just decided not to kill this old man right now. It's kind of what it comes down to. Maybe, because at the end of what I propose.
SPEAKER_02But it also you gotta remember not that the old man is at fault at all, but the old man's fault. The old man does make the call. He he he says heads then. He still says heads. So it's a it's lucky in the fact that you didn't die. That's true. So you're right, where it's like it is just a regular quarter. Yeah. And I hate jumping around. But yeah, there there are parts where he's like the co that where uh Carla Jeans, the coin don't have no say, you do. And so I I I get what you're saying with that, and to me, that's just why he's so alien, is like we can't understand. And I don't think I don't want a definitive answer necessarily. I have my own ideas, yeah, and that's it to me. But like I'm glad that you can't.
SPEAKER_03He's gotta follow the rules of his coin system that he's s established.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Because we he's undeniably he follows the system rules.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03His own internal clock. That you do know much about him. It's just a quarter base.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02But but I think too, the the coin flip is the most up to chance you could have. Where it's either yes or no. So I think there's part 50. 50-50. Yes, I I think that's the biggest deal with the coin that I take out of where it's like. It's not Anton making the choice to kill you in a way. It's it's leaving the case. He's already decided to kill you.
SPEAKER_03No, he's already decided to kill you if he's flipping the coin on your behalf. But he wouldn't kill you if he got it right. Because he follows the rule. Yeah. Because he follows his rules.
SPEAKER_05Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And he just leaves it 50-50 years. Yeah. That's very cool. Yeah, he should have meet the saw guy. He should meet the saw guy. They would go. They had some good serial killer rules. Yeah. I don't I'm scared of Saws, but it's because they because he also would punish evildoers in a weird fucked up way, right? Or that was one of one of the saws.
SPEAKER_02Two and uh later on it becomes like they don't even survive the trash. I remember that survived.
SPEAKER_03That's because his helper changed her. She didn't follow the rules like Antoine would have. And she fucking made him not. You're gonna die no matter what in the song. Yeah, it's okay. So flip a coin.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. But uh yeah, I I just think that's just an an example of just how alien he is, where it's like, it doesn't make sense to us. Yeah. And it shouldn't make sense to us because we're not It makes sense though.
SPEAKER_03He follows his coin rule system. He just wants to be a good thing.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but then both but then back to why wouldn't he follow his why wouldn't he leave it up to chance with the with the two men that at night where he's because he likes to kill.
SPEAKER_03I don't even you're right, maybe like to kill is like he doesn't get sexual thrill, he's he's not smiling about it, it's just that but I think the compulsion could be if he like he's or and it ties into how much little he thinks of life. That's what he's like that's why it is an impulsion too.
SPEAKER_02It definitely ties into that because and I'm gonna jump around, I don't know how to do it.
SPEAKER_03Well, this isn't the next thing after the gas station him then meeting with those dudes at night, and it's dirt during the talk about the crime scene.
SPEAKER_02Next scene, Moss is under the house grabbing the guns, and then he puts Carla butt Carla on the bus. So it tells him to stay with her mom, Carla for how long? And then okay, so Oh, she also there's a part in that scene.
SPEAKER_03There's that immediately after we're gonna go in order, because I can go in order.
SPEAKER_02I have it in order.
SPEAKER_03Okay. So then when the clerk there's something he says in that scene then, where goodbye to he's like, anything you leave, you ain't gonna see again. They leave each other at the end of that scene. Think about it. She never sees them again. Yeah. Yeah. That's true. There is something again.
SPEAKER_02And then um there's a uh they do talk on the phone, but yeah, but then he goes, so uh Carlogine's asking for how long they're gonna be stay uh how long? He goes, baby, at what point would you quit bothering to look for your two million dollars?
SPEAKER_03So he that's when he tells her what happened, I guess. So she kind of knows what he's involved in and stuff like that. And so Yeah, I guess, right?
SPEAKER_02Because eventually she does call Moss too, but that's why So okay, so but uh to the point to baby, at what point would you quit looking? Would you quit bothering to look for your two million dollars? That's a question to her, saying, like, stop stop asking me about what we're doing. But it's also she's saying, she's asking for how long do I have to how long do we have to be at hiding? Yeah, and he's saying, How long would you look how long would you look for two million dollars?
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Basically saying, like, how long are these gangsters gonna be looking for the money? Exactly.
SPEAKER_03So it's and that does shut her up right then, right? Because she's in the situation.
SPEAKER_02No, she goes, like, uh she says something about Momo cussing. Anything you anything you leave you ain't gonna see again. And then she goes, Well, don't fall down apologizing. That's right. And then he goes, baby, I there's things I can't uh uh I already did or whatever, I can't undo them or whatever. Yes, I remember him saying that. Oh baby, things happen. Come on, I can't take them back. So but that scene sh I love her, dude, because just she's so sassy, like she also falls down apologizing. It's so sassy.
SPEAKER_03Because she's like, he is being sassy with me, and I guess he has a point to be, but like I'm also caught up in my husband's bullshit right now because she does I don't even think she knows though. Well, until how long would you look for your two million dollars? I wonder if you quit looking for two million dollars. And then she does know something because she talks to Moss.
SPEAKER_02But to me, with that questioning, the way it's worded, it's like him it's it's it's has double it has two meanings. It has the the meaning of like when are you gonna stop pestering me? It does and when are you and but also like an honest question, or like an honest answer, like it's full of money. It's gonna, yeah, yeah. So I can see that.
unknownDamn, bro.
SPEAKER_03That's uh you're right about I uh also if you think about it too, what if she really still knows that nothing and she just knows that it's full of money? Like that's all she knows, and so maybe she really doesn't think there's two million dollars, she just thinks he's saying as a stop pestering me a woman. Yes, that's what I'm talking about. And on this But on the other deeper face value, well, beyond face value of it, we know that he's also saying, like, this is not gonna end time soon.
SPEAKER_02How long are you gonna how long would uh would the mouth how long would the cartel keep looking for my two million dollars? Yeah. Yes, twenty billion dollars. Yep. Inflation. Yes. Yes, um and then he says uh anything you leave you can see again. Okay, and then the next scene is Anton and two others in the car at night. There we go. Investigating. So you mind riding bitch. There's that that there's a little scene where it cuts to him in the middle and he's just so weird. He doesn't even he's not even talking about being in the middle.
SPEAKER_03Yes, he's so weird. Actually, you know what? Take it back. That's when he decided to kill them. Never mind. That's when he decided to kill him. But we don't even get that because he's just so alienated and so unfazed that he's like, nah, fuck it. Okay, then maybe right bitch, they're gonna die. I think that's it then. That's all it took. Maybe that's all it took. Just like get the weather up there. No, you mind riding a bitch? Don't ask him any questions. That's the trigger. You might be honest. Thank you. Don't make him a bitch. That too. Don't make him sit in the middle. That too. Uh but you're right, so then that's when they finally go. And then they break it down to him. Even one of them be like, they shot the dog, right? No, no, no, no.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so um Anton asks, Who cut the tires?
SPEAKER_03Because Oh yeah, he's like um They see Llewellyn's truck. They see their Wellan's truck.
SPEAKER_02And then he cries off um The VIN plates. The VIN number, or yeah, the registration thing or whatever. Um but he says who cut the tires? And then he goes, Mexicans, I guess, wasn't us. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03So it was the the us is probably an American fashion.
SPEAKER_02The American side of the or they had obviously So it's it's earlier on no later on. It's just uh Bell calls it Mexican brown dough. So it's the Mexicans' drugs and the American money. Yeah. The American buyers. Yeah. Yeah. The American buyers. Buyers, that's the word I should have said instead of being an idiot. And then, okay, so uh sugar prize off the plate on the car, and then one of the guys says, There's a dead dog. And then Anton, Anton just goes, Yes, it is. Yes, it is. I quote that all the time. That yes it is. I love that. If you've ever heard me say that, I've heard you say that. That's what I'm saying it from. Okay. Because it's so funny, dude.
SPEAKER_03Because he's like, Because he goes Yes, it is. And he's unfazed by that also. It's like a little bit of Yeah. Because every time people come across that, they're like, they shot the dog, and then like he's just like, yeah, he doesn't. I see this, yes. He's like, I'm gonna treat you like dogs now. Like, that's also like again, human life, dog life. I don't know, like he doesn't, you're all meat, which is I guess also why he's probably going around using a fucking cattle. Absolutely. You're all meat like cattle to me, and he's just bada bang.
SPEAKER_02Okay, but yes. It's uh and so to go back to that, like what you're saying, or it's like it's like a person who enjoys killing would be theatrical with it, right? They could be. The cattle gun is the most efficient. Is just the most quickly it's it's just the efficient. Yes, efficiency. There you go. That thing's being efficient. It's just an efficient way to kill you. The right tool. And it's also helps him punch outdoors.
SPEAKER_03That's also true. It's a really efficient fucking tool. And then, like, when he's double fisting, bro, uh oxygen tank and one cause what? When he's double fisting, okay.
SPEAKER_02I think we watched the wrong. I think we watched different.
SPEAKER_03Double fisting doesn't mean you think I'm like I was saying when he's double fisting weapons. When he's double fisting weapons, your mind was in the gutter, dog. Double fisting means when you have two you have a thing in each of your hands, each of your fists. Okay? It doesn't mean you're fisting two people. So you're fisting doubly. But like if you have like uh like look at this. I'm double fisting right now. Okay, you know? I'm holding two things. You never heard that? Not when you're just holding two things. When you're fisting somebody.
SPEAKER_02I've never heard of fist. Holding two things is double fisting.
SPEAKER_03But in both hands, that's why. Because both of your fists, okay, double of the fist, are occupied. So that's what because he's think about what I'm about to say, because in one hand he's holding the shotgun, and then the other hand he's double fisted. But yes. It's also like double uh well he's dual welding than his. Dual welding. Yeah, he's doing welding. But that helps you. That will help you. Does that help me? Yes. Fucking nerd. I love you. Do you think if he puts the oxygen tank in his right arm, he'll get a little more damage per?
SPEAKER_02Yes.
SPEAKER_03Yes, in his right hand arm.
SPEAKER_02Actually, no, he needs to hold it in two in both of his hands to get the full.
SPEAKER_03You're actually right, because he has to put one hand done, screw it in the other hand. Dude! Oh, we are ready for that elderly. The Anton Shagore build in Elden Ring? Let's make it, then what would it be? Oh my god. Take off your shoes for silences. But yes, he also has the most giant fucking crazy silence around a shotgun ever. Yeah. It's just so ridiculously big. Um, okay, but then he blaps those two. Yes, shoots them both. And I do keep calling them managerial types, because of probably the next scene we're gonna talk about with Moss not with Moss, but with uh Sheriff Bell and stuff when Sheriff Bell is uh taking the horses from his wife. Is that the next scene after the night? Okay, that's perfect then. Because finally they talk about the crimes of what's happening. Yes. But do you realize when they were like, um, because Loretta's taking the horse, and she was like, Where is it? Something in the back, or it's a car fire, you need a horse for the car fire? And then he says there's something in the backcountry too. Wendell says there's something in the backcountry too. And then she's like, okay. And then she's like, well, be careful. Or maybe they'll start paying you money for renting my horses or something like that, right? And then she says, uh, be careful.
unknownOh, oh!
SPEAKER_03Yes, he's like, be careful.
SPEAKER_02Don't get hurt, don't hurt nobody.
SPEAKER_03Yes, and then he laughed at that don't hurt nobody.
SPEAKER_02Dude, he's cold as fuck, bro. He's so tight.
SPEAKER_03I think it because it has to do with it's a no country for old men, where he's just like, he's never hurt anybody, he doesn't want to wear the gun, and like I think it has to do with that. I think it's more I think it's opposite. I think he's like he'll hurt somebody.
SPEAKER_02That's true. That's why they kind of laughed at it. Those other guarantees. Kinda kinda. But he can't guarantee I'm not gonna hurt nobody. So he kind of just scoffs at that. That's true. That's how I took it.
SPEAKER_03But I also thought it was just how cute their marriage was at that point. Is that why it was like they gotta find it?
SPEAKER_02And her name's Loretta. Loretta.
SPEAKER_03Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Like the Elden Ring boss. And she's related to horses.
SPEAKER_03Just like the Elden Ring boss. Yep. Damn. Damn.
SPEAKER_02This movie is so peaked.
SPEAKER_03It's vibing right now with you, bro.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so Belle arrives at the at the car fire, and Wendell's waiting there.
SPEAKER_03And then you realize that the car fire is Antoine Chigur's car fire. It's the white.
SPEAKER_02And we found that kind of thing. And then also uh he uh Garrett Delahunt Wendell says uh sh I should have brought my weenies.
SPEAKER_03Should have brought my weenies. I oh yeah, I didn't know a car burned like that. Should've brought my weenies. Uh and then that's when they go riding horses together to the backcountry and he has Wendell ride uh Loretta's horse. Yes. If anything happens toward his horse, I don't want to be the part of your board.
SPEAKER_02Okay, so hold on. Um he's uh the car of the old man Anton pulled over Anton pulled over is burning, describes the old boy shot by the highway. Uh and then so this is Sheriff Bell. He's still thinking he's shot by the man killed Lamar's deputy, took his car, swapped for this one, and now he's driving who knows what. And then Wendell says, that's very linear, Sheriff. I just like that.
SPEAKER_03I I think so too, because he he but he's not wrong. It's exactly what I'm saying. Yeah, yeah, no, I'm not saying like that's what I mean. I just he's still interested. I just like that. He's a good detective. I I think that too, because he was also like Wendell's also being like, that sure sounds almost too easy, or it's like it's linear. Like and the sheriff's also like sometimes it's not that complicated. He yeah, we know he killed for this, we know he needs a new car, and we know since he doesn't have this now, he's driving something else, you know, it's just bam, bam, bam, linear. Yes. And uh, damn, I love that. Because then it's also because what happens next, I feel like the sheriff bow thing is linear. They go from burning car, they're gonna go to the back scene, back country scene of Carnage, and that's no hell's bells. They even shot the dog, which I fucking love, dude. Oh, um, and then just him and Wendell are investigating that, and they literally call it like it is, just like, well, I think party here's the okay corral, like party A, party B disagree. Or even when they're talking about like we had the regular Frucus, and I think these two happened afterwards or whatever. Yeah, the managerial types.
SPEAKER_02So there's also part where he says um Oh hell spells they even shocked the dog. He says, How come you reckon the coyotes ain't been at them?
SPEAKER_03Mexicans don't they don't eat Mexican?
SPEAKER_02Supposedly Mexicans uh coyotes don't eat Mexican. But to me, the reason the coyotes haven't been at them is because that scene's been active post the murders.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, when the ones comes back, those people come back, and then Antoine and the two managerial types before.
SPEAKER_02And then so yeah, I wrote in my notes because he's been visited multiple times.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, question mark. Coyotes are like, I don't want to deal with this shit. Like, I don't want to get caught up in no drug trade right now. Coyotes are good people.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then yeah, Wendell is spot on with more than one fracas. Execution here, Wild West there. Yup, and he's still and then uh Bell calls it the Mexican brown dope, so that's kind of that's how we But the drugs are gone.
SPEAKER_03Because he got a big thing. I bet you it's those people, he's like they're gone. And he's just smeared. I bet you the people that were chasing the wildland, they probably took that. Yeah. You don't think it was Anton? I don't think it was Anton.
SPEAKER_02I'm not sure. It had to have been them, bro. Uh yeah. But I but I'm trying to think of something later on when uh the businessman that gets shot by Anton. Yeah. Um if he says something about like uh the Mexicans are out of money and we're out of the product, I think. Doesn't he say that?
SPEAKER_03Well that means that also means that's what happens when the deal didn't happen. They didn't get the money because we didn't get the product because the deal didn't. That's what we that's what they wanted originally. So how bill would want the product and the Mexicans would want the money. That's the real didn't happen, that's true, we're out the product, they're out the money. We still have our original money, they still have the original product.
SPEAKER_02They don't have the original money. Well, that's true. Well, so that's my question is do the Mexicans have the product then? I don't know. I don't think they're not. I think that's what they do. Yeah, that's what they do at the end, that's fine.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So it's like the criminal organizations didn't really take any losses. And that's the important part. Okay? But the money got returned, the drugs got returned too.
SPEAKER_02And so they think they're uh uh Sheriff Bell is going through the the casings on the floors, like 45 ACPs.
SPEAKER_03ACP they put a shot there, somebody on that thing with a shop and about the dog. And then you just oh, but also even before that, beginning as they walk up because they pass the well on truck too, he's like, I know the truck, yes. And then they're like, well, Alan Moss. He's like, that's the fella, he's like, that's the very one. And so they both kind of know who it is.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, which goes to show, like that's again kind of where the old country where everyone knows. You know each it's a small town, you know everybody, you don't lock your doors. That too.
SPEAKER_03Like I'll say this too, like even if we go to work, like, because we both work at the same place, different shifts, but it's like I know everybody's cars, like I know my people's cars, like the same people that start as me. I know like some of the night guys' cars, you know, just because I was used to work together too. It's just like I know this car, like you know, this is familiar to me. So it's like I get that small town thing too. Where it's like a small world after all. And then but that okay, but that's uh that's what I was gonna say. That ties into how a very linear of you, Sheriff. They're investigating their crime scene, okay. Next where they then then they go to the Wellands house, right? Because they know that that is truck, we're gonna go right to the Well, it cuts to Antoine in the Wellands, right?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so one thing I want to say real quick, um, as they're talking about it. Uh I used to hate this, I used to hate this dialogue between the two, but uh now I like it a lot. Where's the sheriff and wendell? Yes. Wendell says, It's a mess, ain't it, Sheriff? And then he responds, if it ain't it'll do till the mess gets here. And to me, to to what you just said, how he's such a good detective is like he knows this ain't it. Like I would say that the mess this is already a mess, but it's gonna it there's a chance that it can get worse. And so the mess could be the movie itself.
SPEAKER_03The rest of the movie basically. This movie's not a mess.
SPEAKER_02This movie's awesome. Cinema. Sorry, but yeah, that's I just wanted to put to point that out that's it.
SPEAKER_03But no, I mean I that's that is a good line.
SPEAKER_02Because I used to I used to hate that scene. I used to me it felt a little how they call on their shot, they're foreshadowing. No, I I again I thought it was Sheriff Bell being a little too dramatic. But I'm taking that now as like, no, he's just he's just very smart. He he knows he knows something. This isn't over yet. This isn't a this is no country for old men, but he's doing okay. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Well he always it ties into the beginning too. He's like, I always knew you have to put your life on the line, but you're so my god, that's why okay. I think it ties into the end too with his resolution, but okay um and the sequel. He's gonna find back what it means to be a cop and he's gonna go and make this a new country for old man. New country for old men. Um and it's just him killing everybody, like hobo with a shotgun style.
SPEAKER_02Uh okay, so then the next scene would be when does it tie into Anton goes to Moss's house, uses the air compressor and rod to open the door, looks through the mail, sees the call log on the phone bill, grabs the milk, and then sits on the couch and looks at a TV that's off.
SPEAKER_03Yep. He's so that's so weird. That's why he's alienated. I also think it's him trying to put himself. I think he does it for a couple different reasons. Yeah. Okay, I'm Lowell and I'm here.
SPEAKER_02I also think it's him because I'm not laughing at like that's a dumb idea, but that's such a funny thing in this context because that probably is what he's doing and he's just so weird about it.
SPEAKER_03But and or or even secondly, if like I want to know kind of what it's like to be normal, I guess. I'm gonna sit here with my milk, which is fucking weird, but like I'm gonna sit in front of the TV and like okay. Like uh like he longs for like he wishes? Not or not longs or wishes. Let me see what it's like. Yeah, let me just see what it's like real quick. I want to kill somebody, never mind. Yeah, kinda. He's just like, never mind, duty calls, I have compulsion to go find this money. Um he's like, I need to flip that coin. Uh but then he but it's uh yeah, but just at release in that one second, just be like, I want to know what Wellon's like or whatever, just be like long. Because it also ties into when Bell's in there. But before we get to Bell, because it goes from Antoine sitting there with the milk to him interacting with the lady at social interaction number two. Yes, the receptionist, I guess, trailer park receptionist. Yes, trailer park manager lady, but like who like as polite as the other guy was, she's like all fucking like polite sass, where she was just like the other guy where I would say was like soft reactive, she's fucking hard reactive. Like, I'm telling you nothing, you not hear me. I can't give you a lot of people. Did you not hear me? I can't give out no information. Like the the double negatives of it all. Like, and she just has to keep repeating it, and he's just but he's just also like, where does he work? Yeah, he's like um he's like, wait a second, my alienation, my intimidation's not. Why aren't you intimidated by me?
SPEAKER_02Like you don't understand me. Like, why aren't you giving me the information I'm asking for?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and he's like, Why aren't you scared of me? I feel like that's also a part of it. Or like like he's he's used to being alienated, and that's why I think when that nice gas station man was trying to make the small talk about him, that's why he was like, like, like, why are you fucking talking to me? And then he's with her, it's a little bit also he's just like, like he's not meeting her with the sass he met with the gas station man because he's just more like, what? Like I he's more shocked about me way up.
SPEAKER_02Like to at the very beginning, he he comes up to her and it's a little more casual when he's like, uh, I'm looking for Lil Moss. And then she goes, like, have you tried his trainers? Yeah, and then she goes, like, well then he then yeah, and then she goes, uh well he must have been at work yet. He must be at work then. Yeah. And then where does he work? And then she goes, I can't say. I can't get on no information. And then he says, Where does he work? Like he pushes it again. Like he does it like a little like kind of like let me make myself clear. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Like tell me where he works. Like he is trying to intimidate.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. And it's like and then she goes not very effective. And she is so lucky because he didn't even try to flip the coin even, and that's also why but the only reason he doesn't do that is because he hears somebody wrestling and he hears a toilet flush and then a door open. Uh-huh. So I think he was he was gonna kill. He was gonna probably kill her. He would have killed. I could have seen that then. So that goes into that into your idea of his of his compulsory need to kill. He wants to kill.
SPEAKER_03And it's also of whoever inconveniences him who gets in his way.
SPEAKER_02I think uh Wells says that, right? That you he'll he'll just he'll just kill you for inconveniencing him. Yeah. Set of rules. But um he's got a set of rules, yeah. But I think it's I think it's so funny that because the toilet flushes, he walks away, he kind of like looks back at her, and she is like dealing with paperwork, and she's like, she kind of like steps forward, like not steps forward, but like she pushes herself forward. Like Don't make me go, don't make me get up off this chair. That's kind of like the vibe she gives off. Yeah. So it's very funny. I think he responded to that. What happened?
SPEAKER_03I think he responded to that. That's why he was just like, okay. Even he caught up to laugh at that. Like he's like, damn. This is different. Yeah, this is a different experience for me. I would have had to kill he would have felt some satisfaction at killing her. Because it was personal. That one would have been personal. He's like, I can't give you no information. I love her performance, dude. She's just like a small little part, but I love it. About how well lived in this world is like who knows what it doesn't matter, but she's a fucking person. Exactly, right? She was like, I know Llewellyn Moss. Like, he's got that adorable little fucking Irish wife. I leave her. And then, like, but she's like, I ain't gonna tell you shit, bro. And she probably knew that he's a wilder, because we know he's a wilder later on. I bet you Llewellyn's fixed things around each other parker. I'm just kidding, I don't know. But like, but again, she's just like, no, I'm protecting the like even even in 80s polite.
SPEAKER_02I think it's necessarily even protection, it's just like, uh, I can't give you information. Information, yeah. Like, but you figure that's just the way she's comes up.
SPEAKER_03But like I also feel like in 80s politeness, she'd be like, oh well, if it was like the gas station clerk, I feel like the gas station clerk who gave all his information away so easily. And would have been like, oh, I think Llewellyn's welding, whatever, you know, like it would have been casual politeness, but she's just the way her, I think her also reacting to him. It just goes into her either that's just the way she is, also, but she was also just be like, like I she was right off the bat, like, I'm not gonna tell you where the fuck he works. Like, I don't like you in looking mad too either. Like And she's like, get the fuck out of here, too. And it's just I don't know. She's also like one of the secret codes of this movie.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, absolutely. She is one of like I don't know if it's one of the best scenes because all these movies, all these scenes are the best scenes, but she is so awesome.
SPEAKER_03Yes, but uh and then it ties into my next and then right the next thing after that is then it's the sheriff, the the cops at Bell's at uh grabs milk, scenes the trailer, he uses the toilet flush.
SPEAKER_02Next scene is Carla, uh Carla Jean on the bus with Moss talking a little bit, just tiny. I don't know. That was like the I that's all I put on my notes. It's not really that important. Yeah. He's just like saying, like, I'm gonna rent a car, you can't afford one. That's it. I work at Walmart, you're retired. You're retired now.
SPEAKER_03Mama's gonna cuss you up and down. It's nothing you shouldn't be used. She's not used to.
SPEAKER_02What should I say? Mama just tried to, yeah, Mama I'm home.
SPEAKER_03That was I love that line too. Just stand in the doorway, how is mom home? And then she's like, no, but seriously, like I hate. And then mom talks about you though, my husband who I love, like please, like, help me out here. Like, but yeah, and I think and then that's also like I think that's also it's significant in the sense it's the last time they see each other. Think about it, bro. It's the last time they see each other, also.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, because they do talk on the phone a little later, but yeah, but you did say goodbye, yeah.
SPEAKER_03And then that's why. And so then then from there, it's the cops into their place, right? After the bus.
SPEAKER_02Uh next scene, uh, Wendell and Sheriff Bell at Moss's trailer.
SPEAKER_03Bell notices the lock. That's what that's that's which I love. They knock Sheriff's office open up, and then that's when he was like, look at the lock. But like, like Tommy Lee Jones, he's like, he's so cashed and he's just like, he's not even looking at the lock, but he's still telling him, like, I noticed it, but you didn't notice it yet. Like, I'm not I'm not I'm moving around, but I'm like, uh he's not being cool about it. He's a little cool about it, but he's just like, Look at the lock window, like real quick, like Mother was already here. Like, pay attention.
SPEAKER_02But kind of in the sense to where I think I don't know if you said it. He's still trying to teach.
SPEAKER_03He's trying to teach Windows, it's just kind of like Windows you didn't even clock it yet, but look what I noticed that you didn't yet. And then that's when Windows, like, oh danger. And so guns up and out.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then there's that that sense or that part where he's uh where's your gun? Yeah. He's like, it's like to me, it's like part partial it's funny, but it's like he already knows if Anton was here, we wouldn't we we wouldn't be alive. Yeah, we played. The m the manner of this man and what this crime is, yeah, like or or maybe not necessarily like, oh, Anton is gonna kill us or but it's like they've already left. Yep. He already knew there's nobody.
SPEAKER_03So it's like we just like but he's like he's kind of training Wendell, like yeah, and so that's why but I think he also was genuinely wanted to be like the old timers didn't have their guns, and like he probably I think it's also him committed to not wanting to to do that. And I but but yeah because I can see that later on he does draw his weapons, yes.
SPEAKER_02Okay, all right. Yes, and that's I do want to talk about the later. I won't be able to do that. And going back to this scene, I know exactly what you're talking about. Yes, you do.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yes, and I think because that's when he learns it's not a country either anymore. Okay, but yeah, but um, but yeah, and then that's why him and Wendell go inside because it's unlocked, because Shagur busted the lock, and then that's you know, they're checking, and that's that's the best thing where Sheriff was like, Well that what doesn't he say that's aggravating? Or what does he say? Who notices the milk? He points it out to the window, and Wendell's like, Oh, Sheriff, we just missed you. Yeah, because that that's what he says, like, oh that's aggravating, right? Tommy Jones's like, that's aggravating. Yeah, yes. And we don't even know yet.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, and then like he says that's aggravat he's in re in reference to the milk, he's like, Oh, that's aggravating.
SPEAKER_03Because we he sees it, but we don't see the milk in the frame yet until Wendell sees it, kinda, because then if Wendell turns around and looks, he's like, Oh, sheriff! And doesn't he say like it's still sweating or something? Yeah, that's why he's like, it's still sweating. He's like, that's like we just missed him then. Yeah. And then Tom Lee Jones decides to have a grab a glass and sits down. And then that's when he says something that I think was interesting also about him sitting down in the exact same spot that Alchegard said. Yes, sir. If he's known the things I've seen, uh right.
SPEAKER_02Like, yeah, he uh so Wendell asks, uh, you reckon uh this mox fella knows what knows what company he's involved with or whatever? He's like, he's seen what I've seen, and it's made it certainly made an impression on me. And it's literally he is looking down looking for the exact same thing Anton was looking at. Exactly.
SPEAKER_03So it's like and it's made an impression on me. It's made an impression.
SPEAKER_02And then the a little bit before that, they're as Sheriff Bell is pouring the milk, um he goes, uh uh Wendell goes, Oh, we gotta put this on radio. And he goes, What put what? Looking for a man who recently drunk milk?
SPEAKER_03Yep, because they don't know what he looks like. They don't know who this person is. And then that's when I think and that's when Wendell's like, oh, that's right, yeah, because they don't know. He's right.
SPEAKER_02I can't help to do the Texas accent, bro. I love it. I can't. Wendell is so good too.
SPEAKER_03This is good movie for accents, dude. That's why we gotta accent it up. I didn't like even like I love that even Josh Brolin doesn't have most of an accent. Tom Lee Jones doesn't even have most of an accent, it's just Wendell does, all the side characters do. I can't give you no information. Dude, I love her, bro. Yeah, she's yeah, okay, but but even when but Wendell's just oh sheriff, we just missed it. That's one of my favorite. Like he's literally you can tell he's so upset, like he's a kid, like, I just want to be a good cop. Like I want to do this thing we're supposed to do, but he's like, damn it, I can't. Like, we just missed him. Like, but now what do we do next? But then that's that's also I meant it's linear. They they went they went uh to Lowan's trailer because they found out I recognize that truck. Antoine went there because he pulled off the fucking Vin plate and probably around 9.30 he clocked it, like just like Luan said they would. And then after that uh after they put in like we don't know what to put in for, right? Like they don't like I can't put an APB out for manager's drunk milk.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03What happens next after that? Because then they don't really have a next clue, right? They don't do cop work. It's kinda like Antoine happens, um Yeah, Josh Ballone happens.
SPEAKER_02Tommy Lee Jones gets a phone call, and that's next scene. Moss gets a taxi to the motel, gets a room, makes a phone call to Roberto's automotive, sees the vent to hide the cash, and then I put next scene Anton calls Carla's mom.
SPEAKER_03Okay. But yeah, but all even him the way he hides the money, I think we we mentioned this. It's smart that he puts it around the corner in the vent. Yeah. Instead of just putting it in the vent, you still put it around the corner, and that's why he had a whole backup system too, where he got getting the room on the other side behind it, because you knew the vents would be connected, and it it being around the corner would let you see it from the other room.
SPEAKER_02Like it like Yeah, that goes back to his resourcefulness and just he is he isn't like an average guy, like he's a squirrely though. Yeah, he he can handle himself. Yep. And that comes up uh Carla Jean's talking to the sheriff bell later on. You know, she brings that up too. Yeah. And then so next scene, Anton calls Carla's mom. It's like a little funny conversation. Like, why on earth would I be expecting him or whatever? And then next scene, Moss is shopping for clothes, goes to the bathroom, and his feet are bloodied. That's it. That's when it's that's when it shows his blisters. And that's crazy.
SPEAKER_03That's right.
SPEAKER_02His fucking feet are all fucked up and he's gotta get because he's been walking on the shirt. Yeah. So and then goes to the bathroom feet. Next scene, it's nice uh tonight. Moss in a is in a taxi back at the motel, notices a truck similar to the ones at the drug deal.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, he gets uh and then he sees like his room at the blinds are split.
SPEAKER_02So he had opened the blinds earlier before he left, and then he closed them completely. Mm-hmm. And then we saw them open. And then at room 138, which is his room, the blinds are a little open. Yep, so they could see anybody. And then I put he did close them completely, because I went back. I'm glad you fucked it. And then he goes to another motel.
SPEAKER_03It's just it's a it's another repeat of when he closes the door of the truck, and then he or no, he left it open, and then he notices it's closed. Yeah. As an immersion that that's how he notices his little things, just the way he pays attention to the way you left it. Yeah. And then, but I I liked how with the taxi driver, he's like, hey, just keep driving, just take me around, and he's like, just get out of here. And then the taxi driver's like, Look, buddy, I don't want to be any of the jackpot you're in. Like, why don't I just drop you off right here and we'll be on our way? And then I like what he says, like, you're already in the jackpot and trying to get you out of it. Yeah, that's cool. Just get me the fuck out of it, yup. And he's just like, yeah. And I was like, you know what? If I was a taxi driver, I'd be like, alright, let's get the fuck out of the jackpot then. Like just take me over here. Fuck it.
SPEAKER_02Because the yeah, the taxi driver's already like, mm, something's off about it. This is a little sketchy. This whole situation's a little off.
SPEAKER_03And the fact that this guy keeps telling me go around, going backward, you know. And just like, look, man, like I don't want to deal with anything. Like, just I'll let you go here. And then he's also like, I'm trying to get involved.
SPEAKER_02And I think, yeah, I think Moss being like, listen, buddy, you're already involved. I'm uh you're now I'm trying to help you not get involved. Right? Exactly.
SPEAKER_03That's kind of even though I feel like I don't know, I don't think they would have fucked with the taxi driver. Like if Moss would have just got out of the car, like they'd have like, okay, that's it. But then Moss would have been gone fucking.
SPEAKER_02They definitely would have shot the person driving Moss because they do that and they have done they will do that in the future.
SPEAKER_03That's true.
SPEAKER_02They have loose gunfire.
SPEAKER_03Like they're I mean, uh that's just a little bit of a right, it doesn't I know apparently it comes out in the book more that that girl has more of a role. Also, I guess there was something.
SPEAKER_02I was oh no, I was talking about uh a little later on in the shootout between Moss and Shigure. He hitchhikes and somebody gets shot twice. The the driver gets shot.
SPEAKER_03Like he's Well, he gets shot twice, but hit Llewellyn does hitchhike because remember there's an old black man who's like, Yeah, but that's something different. Okay, yeah, that's before. But I know what you mean about like innocence do be getting hurt in their fucking gunfights, basically. Yes. But well well, yeah, like yeah, that guy was innocence. Yeah, absolutely. Uh and then so then what'd you say? It's Llewellyn sees them there. So is it?
SPEAKER_02Anton, okay, so he goes to another motel, basically.
SPEAKER_03And it's like that night, right? So it's a different night, because he's gonna go he goes back in the day, and that's when he gets the other room behind his room.
SPEAKER_02I think that's a little later. That's right after though. Okay, so I think it's freaked out. The room 138 blinds are a little open, he goes to another motel. Anton with the transponder is driving on the freeway, uh, and then and then he crosses a bridge where he shoots a bird. Yes! And so that's what I want to talk about, where his compulsion to kill and how there is no value to to life in general, not just humanity.
SPEAKER_03But then just him having control over it, and then he just takes it out. It's so weird. He's so alien. Right? Because he's got it. Yeah, but yes. That's what he is. He's just a killer alien, basically. Yeah. Okay, and then that would be the rest of that night, and then it's the next morning, right? And then that's when Llewellyn goes back and is like, Can I get a map of your remote? Next scene, uh okay, so is that while crossing the bridge he shoots a bird, which is a big thing.
SPEAKER_02Which is a trick. Uh next scene, Wendell Hems bell a lab report on the old man. Uh-huh. Anton killed and took his car. Wasn't a bullet. Next scene, Moss buys a shotgun and a tent for the prep.
SPEAKER_03Yep. When he makes the poles, it's not an actual tent, he just gets the poles, so he has a system to get.
SPEAKER_02And he does have to buy the tent because the guy's giving him a hard time. Yeah. But he buys a tent for all the poles for prep. You're right. I'm sorry. Uh and then he makes a sawed off shotgun. He does. And then the long stick to hide the money. Goes then he goes to the motel receptionist to get another room, asks for the map. Behind his room. 138. So the one behind his.
SPEAKER_03Yep, behind his original room.
SPEAKER_02Yeah. Because he has 138. And so it's like the 100 are kind of in the front. And then the real singles, yeah. Yep. So and then once 38, basically the one behind his. And then next to double. Yeah. That's a double.
SPEAKER_03You know what's funny too? Okay. Real quick backtrack to where he first shows up to that hotel before, like before he gets room 138. And then she there's a list of prices, and then she's like, well, what kind of right? You select a clickable right. Again, another fucking side character randomly store clerk that just has a great interaction with one of our main characters. And then he's just like, I'm just one room, one man looking for a room. You know what's so funny? What I realized this time is that when they cut to him in the new room, he gets up she upsells him a room with two beds. He still gets a room with two fucking beds. After that little speech. Okay, yeah, because the room 138 is a double-bedded room. And so I'm like, even though he's looking for the next room the next day or whatever, she's like, that's a double bedroom. And as I guess you could tell he doesn't give a fuck because he already got got one the first time around. So I just thought that was maybe her upselling him or just being like, okay, I'll give you this. Because he was just like, I'm just one person with one bed. Like you would think he'd be like, okay, you'll get a one with one bedroom. Yeah, twin, but he ends up with a room with two of them. I'm just like, I see this lady trying to upsell this motherfucker, she's like, I'm gonna make some money. That's why I took that as.
SPEAKER_02And then also, okay, so then back to this part right here, where he's asking for another room, her saying, Oh, it's got two double beds. Is her saying to him, like, your room is enough, you don't need to buy another room? That's what I feel like.
SPEAKER_03Or again, or she's just being like, uh that's why I'm like that, or maybe even that's why her saying that is a little weird, because she's already sold him something that had two beds before. Like, yeah, why is he making a big deal now about it? But that might be it, because she already sold him something that has other rooms. But then that's why she was like, Well, the one next to you is open. He's like, No, I want the one right behind me. So she's like, Okay, but she don't give a fuck because she's like, I'll still I'll still sell it to you. Like, that's why like that was my attitude about her. If you want to talk about just store people, because she was just like, you s select the applicable right to the applicable ring. Like that's and she was a little sassy because she repeated that.
SPEAKER_02Like she was also like, I don't like whatever do you even the way when he asked for the map, she's like, We had a sword in one. Yeah, she does.
SPEAKER_03But I feel like even she when she finally said, Oh, like we actually have a map here. Like, she's like, I didn't think I'd actually full up a fucking map for you. Like, here you go. And then he fucking uses the map. And then that's when it that's when it goes into he's getting the money back at night while Antoine just happened to drive by and the tracker goes off, right?
SPEAKER_02So Okay, so yeah, a little like a little earlier when before I think it's before he shoots the bird, it does blip it does blip blip like once. And so I think that's where he that's how he gets the general direction. So as he's driving, um Anton next scene, after the after the map after the room discussion with the receptionist, next scene Anton drives and gets a beep out of the transponder, cuts back to Moss, uh making a long stick with the temples, cuts between Moss and Anton.
SPEAKER_03Uh that parallel action because they're both kind of come up on the same road.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so it's Anton getting more and more blips, and then he finds one thing he he's got. Or does that one's going faster in Antonio? And it's going really, really fast. So he discovers it's in room 138, and then there's a cut, it's a funny little cut to Anton having the same discussion with the with the receptionist looking at the map. It's after the beeping is fast, after the after the two? Yes, he doesn't talk to her. He it's just a it's just a real quick scene. He's just looking, he's looking at her, and then he has the map in his hand, and he just kind of slowly looks at the map. I just said that's kind of funny. Yes.
SPEAKER_03You don't remember that scene? I don't remember that. You know, I just watched this last time. Antoine looks at the map too. I thought it goes from him being beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, beep, and then he just goes and he's taking off his shoe like he's walking sockless at him.
SPEAKER_02So basically, but there is that quick little couple seconds of him looking at the map.
unknownOkay.
SPEAKER_02And then uh and then Antoine buys a room and then he's studying the room. I don't know if you caught that.
SPEAKER_03Maybe, okay, then that's why he's gonna be.
SPEAKER_02He checks the thickness of the walls. Okay. He's he opens the door quick and turns on the light, and then he closes it, and then he does it again like prepping. I think that's so fucking cool to do. That's him practicing breaching then.
SPEAKER_03Okay. Yes. Because then he breaches. Okay, you're right, you're right, you're right. Yes. I told him to fuck, okay. Because I just remember him going into it. Yeah. Because I remember him taking off his shoes because he's big on fucking in his socks, and just because he knows he doesn't blood because B L. That too, but killing people. I realized that too when it's like he took off his socks. After he so he breaches, he breaches the room, blaps the fucking front element.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, it's dangling, and then he has to shoot him again. He's like, ah, and then that's why screen is embedded into my head, dude. Because I've seen this movie so many times. Yeah. And again, a look great little performance that this guy gets. It's like the screen.
SPEAKER_03And then the fact and then he gets silenced, and then bat, and then like somebody else he shoots, and then the machine gun's going on.
SPEAKER_02He shoots It's like three guys, because it's one of bed, and then he's kind of like he's kind of like surveying the the room, and then he shoots uh like a closet door, and nobody's there. And then the guy pops out of the bathroom with the with the machine pistol, and then he shoots him, but then the phone and the machine keep and the machine gun keeps going off.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I think that's cool, yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03And that's why the scene is.
SPEAKER_02And then it does cut to sorry, sorry to cut you off, but it does cut to moss, and he does hear the gunshot. He hears the gunshots. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Because he's on the other side of the room, so that's why they cut back and forth between them. And then you like he I think he hears the first he hears the scream, and then he hears the gunshots. Alright, or he because it doesn't cut back and forth. Or no, it's just action.
SPEAKER_02Um the guy is like he's on the floor and the gun machine's gonna go fire.
SPEAKER_03Okay, yeah.
SPEAKER_02And then it cuts to the he's like at the van, he's trying to keep pushing his stuff in.
SPEAKER_03He's trying to get the pole. And then that's when it's uh Antoine Shigeru goes to the bathroom and he sees the dude in the fucking shower, and he kills that last one.
SPEAKER_02And then yeah, he's like begging for his life.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and then again, that's he didn't have to do the coin thing. He just he he just moves the shower over, so he doesn't have to deal, and he just kills him, bro. And you see the blood splatter on the curve, on the car curve. So but I think it was him being like, I don't want to give this guy a coin chance, I'm gonna just shoot him. I'm just gonna okay, so but to me, but he's also there's also like these guys are in it. He's in mission mode, yeah. Yeah, so it's like these guys are open game. In my rules, they're open, yeah. That's why. Yeah. In my system.
SPEAKER_02Same thing with um Moss, right? He's not gonna give him a coin toss.
SPEAKER_03He says it, he says it too. Oh, I think he can't say. Well, I think at that point, because also he shot him at that point, right? That was their phone call. Is that when they talk on the phone?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, but but I'm just saying, like, back to what you're saying, like, oh, he didn't give the guy in a curtain, he didn't get the guy hiding. He's because he's in it already. That's true. So he's already gone. There are rules to him. To his his rules. They're his rules and everybody else is following them because if you don't, you get killed. Because you're in functionality. Because he is in.
SPEAKER_03Yep. Uh, and then okay, so then and then what he that's when he investigates the room that's there.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he like takes off his socks, they're soaked in blood. Yes, he's gonna be able to do it. He uh he he pulls out a coin and he unheels the ventre.
SPEAKER_03But he's checking the drawers and everything and lifts the vent, and then that's when like there was a good shot where I pay attention to this, after he pulls out the drawers or whatever, it kind of cuts to like you see the vent above him, but he doesn't notice the vent yet, and it's him like going back into the beds, and then like he eventually like looks up and he looks at the vent, and it's the same shot, but it's like we saw the vent the whole time, and then he was that's like it's awesome when he notices the vent. And then that's when it cuts to him reaching into his pocket, and that's when he pulls out a coin to pick the right coin to unscrew the vent. And I was just like, fuck, I love that. Like that's another showing of not telling things, where it's just like it's just we know the van is where the money is, but he doesn't, and then he's just gonna find it. He has to find it. And he's like, I've already looked everywhere else, fucking here's the last spot to look, and I love that dude. And then it's also it sets up a good visual thing later of him using coins to unscrew screws. And that's why I'm just like, I love that that little system too. And it's again, this is Antoine who's also resourceful. Yeah, like you said, him practicing his fucking breaching mana maneuvers beforehand, that's fucking resourceful. I was like, we already know he's a killer, but that aside, like he's also a little fucking he's resourceful because he's gavenging. Because he just he I use what's on me. Yeah, yeah, yeah. I use what's on me, oh, this coin that's gonna fit. I'm gonna take it off the fucking thing, and then I see the dust trails or whatever.
SPEAKER_02And I also think you can kind of see in the lighting when it shows the vent, like the dust scratches on the floor, maybe that's what I'm saying, the dust trail.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you can see that where he had to push something, and even the string dragged, and it's a dust trail, like literally. And then it's like, so you can see that something was up there. So that's how like I feel like Antoine Chigur had his own moment, like, oh that's aggravating sheriff. Like he knows that the money is right there. He heard the transponder going up. He killed like four guys for it, and he missed it. He missed the money by that much. And and then that's when the Wellan goes hitchhiking, right? That's when he runs the moss hitchhiking with the black open.
SPEAKER_02The old man warns him about how dangerous it is. He's like doing what you can do. I put in my notes as a stupid joke. Uh huh. Maybe it's a country for this old man because he knows about the danger of the world.
SPEAKER_03I love that. I love that. It's also like Big Lebowski where he's just like, I hate the fucking eagles, man. What? Get the fuck out of my cab! I wish we had one of those moments. Oh. Uh, and then, so then where are they at after the And then it's uh it's an establishing shot of the skyscraper?
SPEAKER_02Elevator is going up.
SPEAKER_03After this, now this is when we're and then Carson Wells is introduced. Woody Harrelson. Okay. Woody Harrelson's awesome. He's he goes and talks to Bobby Daughtry de la Fontaine. Whose name is what in this? He's like some mediator. He's like some businessman. Literally, yeah, some business majorial person position who is in a skyscraper in a big high-up office, and Woody Harrelson, and he's just like, Woody Harrelson, what do you know about it?
SPEAKER_02And he's like, You know him by sight? And you do. I know him by all the ways. I was like, okay, you too. And there's uh like a little part where he's talking to him and then he sits down and he's not even looking at him. He's like doing paperwork or whatever, and he's talking, he sits down, he's like, Did I ask you to sit? So he's already like he's already doesn't want to deal with this guy.
SPEAKER_03He doesn't, he doesn't even want to deal with the situation. He wants to do it. Okay, so maybe his frustration with the situation. I think it's all of it. But even like he said he doesn't want to hear, but at some point Woody Harless is like, Well, I know it's bad enough you already called me. And then like if you called me, that means it's bad, and then he's bad enough. But I also remember uh what Woody Harlesson says to him saying, Did I tell you to sit? He's like, You strike me as a man that wouldn't want to waste a good chair.
SPEAKER_02Yeah.
SPEAKER_03And then it's just like, okay, because this is a person who's using everything to his resources, also, who's you somebody who would use Antoine Shagur, but then or at least would release Antoine Shagur. Then he realizes Antoine Shagur is too much of a fucking mess, and so that's why he's calling Woody Harrelson in to fucking be like, help me with Antoine Shegur, please. And that's why I also just feel like, okay, like you're not gonna waste a chair, like I'll be your chair. Okay. Yeah, and then that's and then I think that ties into the right tool for the job type stuff too. That well we'll tie into that later when Antoine comes back, but then that's when he was just like, I'm good with numbers and names and faces and dates. So I saw him November 28th last year and stuff, and so he's like, okay, well, we need you to handle him, then please, like, thank you. And then that's when we know what he has.
SPEAKER_02Just how dangerous is he? He's like, compared to who's uh the bubonic play. And then that's when he goes bad enough to call me.
SPEAKER_03Yep. There's just the cashmist of like compared to woo. The bubonic play. I can't give out no information. But yeah, the bubonic plague line read is another one where I'm just to woo. Like a vocal stimulant. It is. The bubonic plague, but also just funny that Antoine Shur is him, I guess. He really killed him indiscriminately like the plague. Alright.
SPEAKER_02He's never been around the psychotic killer, but so what? So are diseases, I guess.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. So are diseases. And he's his and he's been around for as long as diseases. Sure. I think he's a timeless entity. I don't, but Antoine would make a good vampire, I'm just saying. He'd be hated very vampire.
SPEAKER_02If uh this was that kind of movie. But it is not. Don't cut your fold man. It is vampire movie. Very grounded movie, sir.
SPEAKER_04You can't know. I want you to keep going to the next one while you're laughing.
SPEAKER_03That'd be perfect. It is grounded. I'm looking at my notes, I'm sorry. Generations change. Well, I mean, this is like the beginning of second half, I feel like, because it's like that was the first interaction. Well, the closest our two main forces. Oh well, I guess I'll bring it at the end, but our two main characters, Antoine Shiger and Llewellyn Moss, come closest to face and face, so to speak. For now, yeah, this is the same. Like that was the close they were in the same scene, so to speak, for the first time in the whole movie right now. And then like that ends, and then that's why it's the second half. This is now big. He's killed so many people already, Antoine. And some of it's about our job, some of it's not about our job. And uh Woody Harrelson, please take care of him. And then so like after the Woody Harrelson talk, is that when Lou is it all Lou Welling or is it Antoine then? Or does it go back to the show?
SPEAKER_02Okay, so Oh, uh, one thing I do want to talk about. Um Wells is uh before he leaves, he makes a remark about a floor of the building missing. I don't know if you remember that. Yes. So there's a floor missing. I thought it was a 13th floor. There's yeah, there's that idea, and that's what I think it is. But I've also heard that um there it's the elevator and how how many, like how many floors there actually is that he counted. There's uh a hidden floor that you can't access to because that's where the drugs are are are handled. Ah because I I do think it's probably just the 13th floor and it's like.
SPEAKER_03Well it's a little bit of column A, little column B, because also this is a company that was involved in the cloud.
SPEAKER_02And just the way he the way he answers the guy, he's like, Well, we'll look into it. We'll look into it. But it's also kind of like shut the fuck up about my drug room and shut the fuck up. Because if it was, he would just be like, they're superstitious we don't have a 13th floor.
SPEAKER_03I see, I also think that he's so frustrated and wants this shit done with he's just like, get the fuck out of here already. I'm not gonna tell you. That's what I think. But I love that I've heard that idea and I like it. I mean, what it it follows with why they want drugs, I guess, gim brown. Yeah. And it's okay, then where does it go after you?
SPEAKER_02So then next scene is Moss at another motel. Moss gives you a lot of people.
SPEAKER_03Oh, that's when he shows up to the Yuan all night. He's like, Yeah, he's gives the guy money to take the skin with. And then he says, um uh to buy to buy this is not police. Dang, I don't remember. Oh yeah, I don't know. People are after me. Don't worry, it ain't the cops. Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_02He says, um, like people are after me, not the police. I always thought he said I'm police. No. But I was watching those subtitles and I noticed that he said I'm police. Or I'm not police. Yeah. That's why he's just like, and then he finally goes through the money and finds the device.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, okay. It's another repeat of the beginning where he feels like something, something's eating at him and he's up all night thinking about it. And then he's also like, because he's like, ain't no way I think, right? Doesn't he say no way? Yeah, and he's because he's like, Ain't no way they're being able to follow me all this time, is the money being fucking tracked. And that's when he wakes up.
SPEAKER_05Should have thought of that earlier.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Should have just dumped the money all over to roll around in it, Scrooge McDuck style, and then you you would have been okay. And then so that's when he's like, let me wait, let me fucking check. And then that's when he checks, and then it just so happens that he's also checking at the same time. By then, Antoine Shegur is in the fucking building. And I love that we don't see Antoine Shagur at all in this scene. It's all from Llewellyn. Llewellyn knows he's being attracted. Llewellyn then kind of realizes, wait a second, I have this tense feeling right now, and then he calls the front desk again. The front deskman doesn't answer and he hears it ringing, and that's when he's just like off.
SPEAKER_02He also hears some rust. I think it's uh like him falling over and him spilling the cat ball. Ball, okay.
SPEAKER_03So he hears him. Yes, he does. Yes, he does. We don't even know if there's a coin scene, but that's why I know that that that's a great that's another great entire scene of setting up tension. Because we don't see we don't know yes, see what Anton's doing at all. It's and it's through what Llewellyn's. And it's also dark. It's all the sounds we hear, because it's that one's that's another good showing not telling. They're not telling us what he's doing, they're just showing our act our character reacting to whatever the fuck's going on around it. But we also know that then reacting through this, we know he killed that person because the line's ringing. We know he's finding him because we hear the beep, beep, beep, beep.
SPEAKER_02He's he when he goes through the stack, you can hear the actual beeping. It's beeping. No, but you hear him because he's looking for him, right?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, yeah, you hear him, and then he knows when he's in front of his door because all the beep beep beeps. And then that's when you know that Antoine turns off the beeper because he's like, okay, he's here. I'm turning off the beeper. Uh, and then that's when he also realizes Llewellyn's about to sit on his bed with the shotgun there. And then he's all like, they kind of both have the same idea. They both turn off a light. Because he's one Yeah, he turns off his light. And then he turns off the hallway light, like, first, yeah, and then Antoine goes and turns off the light, and then Llewellyn's. And then he's like, Yeah, a little light. They don't know what's gonna happen, and then the door flings off. Because Antoine does his signature fucking door move. Yeah, and then that's I love that he just boom bangs hits him in the chest, then he flinches. And he doesn't realize that he's oh fuck, I don't know what hit me, but he still shoots. Yeah, and he blasts, which is a great that's what you want. Like if this motherfucker's the door, and then I love that he blasts and immediately just runs back out the window. And then which is good because then it turns out Antoine, now we're in a gunfight. We still haven't seen Antoine. Antoine's just flashes of his gun right now, which was what I love. Because he shoots him from the dark doorway, because it hits the window, and then he jumps, he falls to the the f ground floor. And I love that he goes back in and goes through out the back door because he's trying to run through that alley. But then again, Antoine, we don't see him, we just see the flash because he gets shot again and he gets he gets hunted by then. And then that's when he hitchhikes, finds that poor fucking bystander. Like while he runs in front of his car and he's like, I need you to get me out of here.
SPEAKER_02And then it's one of those great it's a great sound design too for the scene where you just hear because it's a good silence gunshot, just like you hear like the little pt and then the glass shattering, and then like the fucking blood's burning at him, and it's just and then and to the to the the driver, the act the driver, the guy who's playing it, he's kind of like um He's a little scared because Glorillan is coming up with him with the gun like move, yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_03Glenn did walk up to his shot his truck with a shotgun. Yeah, so he's like, Oh, I ain't gonna hurt you, just need you to get me out of here, and then he gets shot in the neck and the head. And then in the head, yep, which is like one, two double tap, and then the one's like, okay, fuck, well then we gotta drive out of here. And then I feel like it's such a good gun it's a good gunfight scene, but it's also a one-sided gunfight scene. Because again, it's like because Moss is running away. Yes, and it's all Moss. We don't even we never cut to Antoine Shakur's point of view of this gunfight.
SPEAKER_02There's like you can see a figure like through the rear view and like as it's like.
SPEAKER_03You can see his motion, or again he just flashes, but it's at no point is it cut to him, because I feel like when they it's like it's three movies, because it's Antoine's movie, it's Llewellyn's movie, and it's Sheriff Bowell's movie. And it's just like right now in the movie, even though two of our main characters are interacting with each other, it's Llewellyn's point of view for right now. Yes. And that's like we don't see Antoine at all, and we don't need to, and it's just they're still fighting, and still and I feel like it's better because like we don't know where this gunfight's gonna go. Because you know in the gunfights, like we can see this this guy's doing this thing on the car, this guy's doing this thing on the car.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, I gotta reload or I'm out of animal fuck. But it's just it's all it ties to like, or not ties, but it's it shows more of like we don't know what we don't know what Anton's doing because we only know what Moss knows.
SPEAKER_03And we only know Moss's situational awareness in this fight.
SPEAKER_02Because I only know exactly, yes.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I like uh well if you're tracking it, I'm like doom pdoom, like I could see the flashes over there, so I know he's over there, Luan knows he's over there, type thing. And it's just like Luan has a good part where he psyches him out. Like, doesn't he psych him out where he makes him think he's going this way? And does he is it because he's tracing Luan's blood? Or is he?
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so so after after the after the driver gets shot, he's he's hiding and he's controlling the car and he passes by him. He ends up crashing, and then he gets out and he hides behind a car. And so and so there's a great part where he's hiding behind the car, and you can see in the reflection of the window, Anton walking. Yeah, and the movement, yeah. And I put it in my notes because it reminded me seriously of Michael Myers because he's just walking very casually. He's not he doesn't even have his gun out like loaded or anything like that or anything, he's just walking to survey with the damage.
SPEAKER_03And it's just like he's he also he's not a battle tactician, he's just a fucking killer, that's why. He's not coming up gun strong. He's just like I'm gonna see if my kill is killed. Oh, but guess what? I he's not, so I got shot. So now I gotta run and get away.
SPEAKER_02And there's so so he's looking at him through the through the window, like through the reflection, and he and so Anton looks and sees the blood the blood uh trail. Yeah.
SPEAKER_03Um and he Because he did hit Llewellyn. Yeah.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, he hit him in the stomach and he's the side. So that so that's messing him up. Um and then so once he realizes where the blood like the trail's leading, um Moss pops out with the shotgun and shoots him and he fucking flies away. Like he d he does a very big dive away. He does. He jumps in the back.
SPEAKER_03But I think it's partially he does get hit then, right? Yes, he does get hit.
SPEAKER_02Yeah, so then he he uh he go he he escapes.
SPEAKER_03But then like that's the end of their gunfight, and then they're not gonna be able to get the game.
SPEAKER_02And that's like the most interaction they have?
SPEAKER_03That's the most interaction that they're like physically. Yeah. No, it is. And even the rest of the movie, there's a phone call after that. But then I like how they both have their own um after this that the movie splits again, it's like they each have their own ri ricuperation scene, kind of, you know? Like Ruellens is about getting into fucking. Hello. Eric from Prometheoric here. Just want to let you guys know that that's the end of part one out of two for our No Country for Old Man podcast episodes. I hope you guys enjoyed this one. I know it was quite the doozy. Get ready for next one. I'll be dropping that in about ten days. What do you say? Alright, thank you, everybody.
